Default Cylinder head mods?

I've just picked up some Version 8 replacement cylinder heads which have Zero cracks in them, I am looking at upgrading the Cams in these so am wondering the following:-

If I upgrade the cams do I or should I get new or uprated valves, springs, retainers?

If yes then what if any work needs to be done to the cylinder heads?

I am not setting my sights on any specific power figures but thought i'd read somewhere that if you start pushing more than 500-550 bhp then the standard cams become a limiting factor??

thanks in advance

Are they!? Oh right in that case I may have a rethink! If my block faces have already been skimmed is it a good idea to get these head faces skimmed too or is it only if they are damaged or were subject to head gasket failure etc?

Get the heads skimmed and as anger says do as much as possible first time round if you can afford it

springs , valves & retainers yes .
cams can then be changed easy enough after.
stanard cams run out at 550ish and die on their arse.
all depends on the size of your pockets.
looking at changing to 272's at the mo so if there was a few of us a group buy would be good .

That sounds like a logical approach and will save me a few quid for the time being cheers!

I'll definitely be interested in a group buy!
