Default cheapest OEM feel clutch for 440/440 ?.

Looking for OEM as possible, but on a budget. For spirited driving only... on a 5 speed

What kind of money am I looking at ?.

3 paddle clutches as bad as people say ?. - Having now got the car I can answer this one - YES!

cheers
Rob

Using the power of 'Search' - Looks like AP Racing Clutch is up to the job, but also a question of whether the cheaper Scoobclinic performance clutch would do the job.

Was a question I had as well ?. It won't be used for 1/4 mile of even track to any extent. I've heard them running high 300's not sure if anyone has run over 400 on one.

not sure i would recomend any organic clutch above 400, however i do know of a few cars that have been run successfully at around 430-450 albeit these are road use cars and no 1/4's, etc...........

for the highest torque rated organic then i would suggest/supply a Helix item

I had an AP at over 400bhp for over 2 years and 80+ launches before it died, had been on the car for 4 years and all of that included drag use each year

Thanks anger, if a AP could take your abuse it will easily handle my miss daisy road driving. Ultimately it will need to handle closer to 500, as the engine and turbo is good for it, But I'vegot more pressing issues to sort out with the car before I start looking for more power.

Picked the car up today and the 3 puck in it at the moment is hard work as you would expect. Feels strong and like it will take some abuse but not nice as a daily driver.

So got to get the clutch sorted, sort some electrical issues out, and ideally find a 2nd hand 3" miltek to make the car more tame.

I got the car and had been told it was a twin plate Rob... I was shocked when I took it out to find it was just the normal AP racing one and it had taken the abuse I threw at it

Rob, i'm running a Helix clutch on mine and feels spot on. Mine has a Group N clamp but feels just like OE.

I'm running at peak 440lbft on it.

I have AP at 440 (but 6 speed) - I lunched 2 Exedy pink boxes in under 2 years when running around 400 on my 5 speed (but high torque for one of them as it was a 2.5) I hated the Exedy clutches, just never drove right imho.

I've just an exedy fitted and it feels fine although its only done 6 miles.

Did you have your fly wheel changed at all ?

I am a little worried now.

Thanks for posting, you were the other guy I was going to ask what clutch your running. And you've confirmed a pink box will be no good for me.

It will need to take 440/420 at the moment, but will ultimately need to hold what ever I can throw at a fully forged 2.5, with a ported polished head, cams, MD321V in a classic on a PPG. Got to get it running right first though. Or might be a breaker

If I'm correct you can (with a bit of grinding) fit a 6 speed fly and clutch to a 5 speed casing which would help take the power/torque.

I have just had an AP fitted at RCM. I'm running just shy of 430/430 and was told that it would cope no problems. Especially if I am not doing launches and the like.

Like James said, his coped with 80+ launches and Drag use. He got 2 + years.

I don't think you'll go wrong with one.

AP all the way I agree, but if the price is of a factor then Helix should be cheaper. Remember to order organic clutch.

I ended up with a Scooby Clinic Uprated organic clutch which from memory was £440 which is the cheapest out of them all, and spoke to them and they have/are running it in one of there own at around 600bhp..and Banny on S/net recommends them as well. Very nice feel on the peddle but does has a slightly noisey thrust bearing which I'm assuming is normal.

I think it does use some Exedy components, but cover is nice and purple anodised and the pressure plate is different.
