Keep it standard unless your going to spend out on other engine mods...

Well looks like ill be going for a panel filter for now then lol are there any issues with oil going onto the maf as opposed to a dry filter induction kit? also has anyone used either of these ones?

Apparently do-lucks panel filter gave the best results performance wise when tested. No idea how they are in general though.

Do-Luck will give you biggest gain, but have poor filtration...

Personally i would go with K&N or Green Cotton,Cosworth too is good from the test

I had a feeling that would be the case with the Do-luck one, hence why I said I have no idea other than the performance gains. Remember a similar test with cone filters where the best hp gain wise, were the worst when it came to keeping the air clean. Not worth it for 3-5 extra ponies!!

On another note as its quite relevant to the opening post, is it purely for financial reasons people say not to bother upgrading to induction kit from decent panel filter or are there mechanical repercussions also? Thanks in advance.

Well normally ive allways gone for a induction kit, but alot of people on here and my mechanic have said a pannel filter is best unless im planning to go above 450bhp, id like to get to the 400 mark one day but im happy for now just getting it breathing better. Im not entierly sure why a pannel filter is better, im guessing it may be something to do with heat soak or something like that

Hot air from engine bay, Extra air which the MAF has issues measuring accurately low down when size increased etc

Similar situation is with the HKS panel filter, they have biggest gain(7-10bhp),but again have poor filtration and poor filtration is not good for your MAF and turbo and engine, plus Do-Luck and HKS are not re-usable as K&N,Green Cotton and Cosworth(Cosworth filter is just K&N filter coloured to the Cosworth blue colour),those 3-5bhp you will never feel on road, similar is with lightweight pulleys etc.

About the induction kits is you will need remap, yes looking nice at engine bay,but gains are not massive if its mapped,i would say keep your OEM airbox, its OK to above 400bhp and if you will at future go with FMIC(Front mount intercooler) and bigger power yes you will need go with induction kit,but on standard TD04 is pretty pointless go with FMIC,we are this done and if its worth,i would say no

I was thinking along the lines of k&n and the green ones but i was worried about the filter oil getting on the maf like with some of the induction kits or is it different with the panel filters?

People used Green Cotton and K&N panel filter without the problems and i don't think you will have problems with those panel filters

Oil is just on the outside - the air facing side of you like, the oil is to help trap and catch particles

Cheers for the replies to my question. So in a nutshell you can fit an induction kit as long as you make a heat shield but don't expect a performance increase ultimately making it a waste of time and money unless aiming for 400+ bhp. Ive been known to waste the odd bit of time and money
