I think thats thrust vectoring that allows it to move like that

Yep, it is indeed, this clip shows it on the F22
Amazing moves in that clip Worzel, and even more amazing that the pilot can handle that much G for so long without blacking out. |

A combination of thrust vectoring and high aerodynamic instability. As simba says, if it wasn't for the computers, the plane would drop out of the sky. Incredible bit of plane design though, the capabilities of these fifth generation fighters still blow my mind.
I've seen a couple of Sukhoi Su-27 derviatives do demonstrations which were just jaw dropping, hopefully the F-22 will make an appearance at Farnborough this year and exceed them!

The Chinese J20 looks a tidy thing too.

Except if you peel off the "J20" stickers it'll says F-22 underneath!
Be interested to see how the PAK FA (which is very F-22 ish in its shape and proportions) compares when it hits its stride. I'm a huge Typhoon fan, I know its not a 5th generation aircraft but I just love the look of delta wing aircraft. I think the Gripen looks superb as well.

No, I'll give you that!
Clint rocks though! I watched Magnum Force last night, great "70s" film. Properly un-PC too |

Speaking of aviation based films, have you (or anyone else) seen "Les Chevaliers du Diel"? Its basically a French version of Top Gun, but the aerial sequences are (in my humble opinion) some of the best ever commited to film.
Its a pain in the ass to get hold of (it was released under the title "Sky Fighters" in the US), but well worth a watch if you get a chance.

No, never heard of that. I will have a look for it now though
You just need to look at the many vids of French Mirage pilots in action to KNOW that it'll be good |

If you enjoyed that, then you might enjoy this:
This is "Vol Blancs", one of several films by director Lionel Charlet. His films are sort of documentaries, but contain very little commentary. Some of the footage and cinematography is stunning though (I think anyway!). He has another "full length" film, but his site has been down for ages, so I'm not sure what the score is there. EDIT: Found his other "proper" film: Might want to grab a beer (or two) before you press play on that one!

That's the first half of Ice Hornet watched, simply WOW !!!
That is great stuff, I will watch the second half tomorrow. The flight through the mountains was staggering stuff! Can't wait to see the second bit The picture below is probably one of the planes in the video, from RAF Fairford a few years back. |

The Vol Blanc and Ice Hornet retail DVD's (and Lionel Charlets site) contain loads of little extra short films he's done as well, most of which are very well filmed and put together. As I mentioned above though, his site has been down for a while now, so I'm not sure what the score is. Pity, as he did a short film on the Rafale a few years back, so I was expecting his next full film to be be on that. NB: Great picture, did you take it?

No, never too nerdy for me Thoroughly bloody enjoyable mate. He's obviously very talented and committed to his Genre. You can see how much he understands what he is filming. Brilliant stuff Yes, that is one of my pics. I took quite a few of the Swiss Hornet that day, I will have a look and post some more. |

Nice one, look forward to seeing more! I've yet to try taking any pictures of flying aircraft with my DSLR, but I'm guessing you need a fairly decent lens to get any clear shots.
Glad I mentioned Lionel Charlet now. Having done a bit of Googlising to try and find out what has happened to his site I've just discovered he released another DVD at the very end of last year. Need to find someone who'll sell it to me and ship it over now!
