Default Tyre Choice Help

I will be changing the tyres some time in the 1st quarter next year.

Every scoob I have had over 10 years has ended up on Toyo's but I want to try and take my usual Toyo blinkers off and look at what else is out there.

The Brisdgestone RE070's on the Hawk are a fantastic dry tyre but in the wet and certainly below 5 DegC they are shocking.

New tyres will go up in size to 235/40x18 or maybe even 235/35x19 !! depending on my end wheel choice.

What are you thoughts for a middle of the range option ?

Quite tempted by Falken 452's or Vredesteins.......or do I just stick with Toyo's.

I don't want any 'Track' biased tyres as have those now and the cold/wet compromise isn't worth it IMHO.

I am thinking of Getting my spare alloys shod with some "normal" tyres in the new year. As the 888's are just plainly and simply ****e at this time of year.

I have already half made my mind up on a set of the Falkens, through reading reviews and remembering just how good they were on my classic years ago!

I've tried many types of high end rubber and the best without doubt are The Hankook Evo V12's.

Just over a oner each at Camskills.co.uk

Run them at 2.0 Bar (28 psi) all 4 corners.


Including several trackdays, 2 sprints and got 28,000 miles out of them.

In the wet they are awesome to the point that everyone in the pits came to see what tyres I was on.

Hankook developed them as a track / street tyre.

I'll be doing the same in the new year as my current Falkens are pretty much done.

I was going to get a set of track based tyres for my 18"s now that i'm not doing many miles in it, but i can't put my old wrx wheels over the calipers for winter so i need something more all-round. Very tempted just to get another set of the FK452's, they've been a cracking tyre for the money.

I've looked at the Vredestein Sessanta too but its another £40 per corner....

I'm going to be needing some new tyres soon too so will be interesting to see how people's choices pan out, currently wearing Bridgestone potenza RE050's.... been great all round especially in the wet but they don't seem to last very long considering the easy life they've had

i've heard a few people have say good things about Vredestein's now so may have a look at them

I would be tempted by the hankooks.

I have spoken to at length a tyre specialist at camskills,

he said that the hankooks are very good and as Skullfudge has said they were designed as fast road / track tyre and the compound of the rubber is designed for such use.

I am also a fan of the Toyos T1Rs which are definitely better than the Yoko Pradas certainly in the wet as I found last weekend,
and in the dry, there is nothing to choose between them.

skullfudge,you said you put 28 psi in your tyres.is that for track or on the road as well.because if i run 28 psi in mine on the road,the car fills 2 bouncey.
i run 32 psi all round on mine,wot do you guys run at ?

Last set of tyres i got were Kumho KU39's. Looked upon as a 'budget' tyre which they certainly aren't because they are cheaper than most of the other top brands but i found them to be great tyres. Quiet, gripped well in wet & dry & last longer than tyres double the price.
Excellent value for money tyre.

I've tried these and must say they're real ditch finder,we are run on our wagon which has have at this time 350bhp and must say not the best.

These Kumho have stiff sidewall,for these money i would little bit pay more and get Falken FK452 which we are now running,great in any weather

Agreed with Vreds they're great and too Hankook V12 which are great too,about the Toyo T1R they're not the best on New age,great on classic which is lighter,but on New age i wouldn't recommend,we are run them before and must say,horrible tyres which last not as i expected

DIDZ: yep I have always runs pressures at 28 all corners. I have 40 settings for suspension set up so I can lose any movement by adjusting.

Street I run at 28 psi and 26 front / 24 rear on the set up.

Track I run at 28 psi and high up in the 30's on set up depending on circuit.



I've tried all different pressures and for "my P1" it's 28 is perfect.

Those pressures may be good for the lighter P1,

But not for the heavier newage.

I run 32 all round for road use unless I am four up then I put more in up to 36 on the rears.

Have to agree with you there Clive, I'm on my 3rd set now & they are so good. Better than the old gsd3 & gsd2 Goodyear eagle F1's.
