R.I.P Steve Jobs
R.I.P Steve
RIP Steve Jobs - you changed the world ! Barack Obama:, US president "Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it. "The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented." Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman: "Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives. The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honour." Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder "Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you." Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney "Steve Jobs was a great friend as well as a trusted advisor. His legacy will extend far beyond the products he created or the businesses he built. It will be the millions of people he inspired, the lives he changed, and the culture he defined. Steve was such an 'original,' with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started." Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Inc: "Today the world lost a visionary leader, the technology industry lost an iconic legend and I lost a friend and fellow founder. The legacy of Steve Jobs will be remembered for generations to come." Larry Page, CEO of Google: "He was a great man with incredible achievements and amazing brilliance. He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it. His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me." Jeff Bewkes, CEO of Time Warner: "The world is a better place because of Steve, and the stories our company tells have been made richer by the products he created. He was a dynamic and fearless competitor, collaborator, and friend. In a society that has seen incredible technological innovation during our lifetimes, Steve may be the one true icon whose legacy will be remembered for a thousand years." Dick Costolo, CEO of Twitter: "Once in a rare while, somebody comes along who doesn't just raise the bar, they create an entirely new standard of measurement. RIPSteveJobs" |

Very sad news.
A true technology great. It wasn't long ago Apple were struggling as a company - with Macs not providing enough profit. Steve Jobs took the company in a new direction, providing global success with the iPod, iPhone, iPad etc. They haven't looked back since. I know he has been ill for years, but his death, only 6 weeks after stepping down as CEO, showed that he never wanted to give up. |

Sad and did well to hold of cancer that long.
As a business man - genius but he was not an inventor tbh. Just good at selling tech to the masses. Before the iphone tech was geeky, he made it cool and chic, people drool over apple products, which are essentially mid range oldish tech in shiny cases. $8.3 billion in the bank when he died, not bad going. |

Your welcome to your opinion Bearo. Mid range oldish tech in shiny cases. Not sure on that one. I phone all the others tend to copy ( i don't have one by the way) I thought all the latest gizmo's went into them. I pad again full of the latest tech stuff. I thought this was all top end stuff not mid range? Nige

None of apple products are top end specs wise. Thats not to say they don't work well at what they do. However, they charge a premium for things with specs you can get elsewhere for at least half the price.
E.g imac with i7 3.4Ghz 4gb memory, etc is approx £1,800. You can build a faster 4.4Ghz machine for half that easily. Again, new iphone 4s has 1Ghz dual core, 3.5"screen £500 compared to htc sensation 1.2Ghz dual core, 4.3" screen £350. The original iphone did start a new wave of smart phones not because of its specs but because of the operating system which now has arguably better competitors. |

I use OSX for design work because its simple and i dont want headaches at work just like a work car. iOS is a nice simple design but i prefer to play around with android installing custom roms, changing everything.. just like you would when you mod your car. You want a fast custom non-standard car. I want a fast custom non-standard phone, pc, etc.
Again, theres nothing wrong with apple products they work great but i don't wana pay a premium for what is underneath a mid range product. |

You obviously know what your talking about. I like the way you explained it to using the car comparisons. Nige

I suppose im not keen on mainstream overpriced products. Probably why i like scoobs n evos cos they're not overpriced in comparison to bmws, etc and more customisable/adaptable?
I dont really know what im talking about now, thats your domain. |

Bang on Bearo. Wozniak was the real inventor when the two started Apple way back when. However without Jobs being as smart and driven as he was (probably why he continued working pretty much until the end) the company would never have lasted, let alone got to where it is today.
Anyway, he obviously had a major impact in what he did because even his passing leads to the same old debates about Apple products versus other makes. Like Apple or not, he had a hand in shaping the technology that today is commonplace to all of us so a pat on the back and an RIP are certainly justified. |

I've had my previous 6 computers bespoke built and we also run Mac Pro.
I have a PC built every 3 years using the biggest & best available (at the time) and the Pro Mac's performance equals the PC's I have built. Using the best graphics cards still can not match Apple graphics. I certainly would not class Apple products as mid range?? Their OS's are far better than most and they are also responsible for most leaps in computer technology used by the mainstream. I'm no expert on computers but I use them 24/7 and rate the Mac's as the best by a mile. |

I have been building and overclocking my own pcs for quite a while now and its easy n cheap these days to buy an i7 an overclock it to 5Ghz on air. Macs are pretty much incappable of this, hence why i would never spend thousands on one. You will never get the same FPS on the latest games on a mac.
Same story with phones i can install a rom on my phone that uses 2 clocked profiles. 1 underclocks the cpu when idle to save battery. 2 overclocks it when in use for faster processing. Also sorry i meant mid range with the specs. Mac Pros are def not mid range spec but are still way overpriced. An iPad and iphone is mid range specs wise. |

How to say at moment PC are same and too Mac,before Mac has been unique with RISC CPU,now using same components like PC which you can built for half price. I've before MBP few months and i've been fed up with this, due this i'm running Hackintosh PC with 12GB ram and 4.4ghz i7-930,i'm using mine for making music and some design works, but for work in 3DS Max and Maya,AutoDesk AutoCad Windows is best. About the the graphics,Apple using the lowest specs of graphics, just try play on Mac Pro Crysis 1 or 2 on highest details and 16AA/AAF in 2560x1920,you will see what is best. Apple OS is great,Windows is too great, last 7 is just great and i'm using this mainly on mine projects.Mac OSX i'm using only for making music with Logic Pro,if this program will be on PC i wouldn't never think about the Mac OSX. BTW. Steve Jobs RIP Jura |
