i usualy do 80mph on the motorway anyways n i wouldnt consider doing more than that if the limit was raised to 80mph.
seems a safe sensible speed for the road conditions most of the time |

I think raising the limit would be a good thing, afterall the 70 mph limit was set in the 60s when most cars would struggle to get over 70 mph and they did not have any of the advanced technologies as todays cars have so a car from modern days will stop quicker handle better generally be safer then something of the introduced speed limit era

I normally do about 80mph now, and it the limit was 80mph i'd still do the same speed. Feels safe IMO |

Surely this should have been done before? Speed limits were introduced when brakes were made of wood. Modern cars are so much more advanced now. I sit at 80 quite happily ( until the tw*t in his porsche drives up my trumpet ) not always a porsche so insert your car of choice, Rep in a BMW for example.

I guess the government is generally in agreement with the change, but concerned about the cost of implementing it - especially with the economy as it is.
It'll cost a shedload to change signage everywhere, publicise & educate, update paperwork and books (highway code etc) and generally getting the message out there. Lots of little things too, people's satnavs have speed limits set on them and can warn if over, some cars have settings that monitor speed and alert the driver if going over. But i agree, 70mph is a daft limit. But they're also worried that if we do 20mph over the limit now, then we'll just raise that with the change (people driving at 100 instead of 90). |

It sounds a good thing but i generally go with the flow on most motorways, and 90% of the time im on the M25 so normally its under 5mph and with the hand brake on!

80 mph about time.
Is another ploy by the government to raise more revenue, the faster people go the more fuel that's used brings more tax? What we really need is for the other to drive properly and be in the correct lanes. If you are not overtaking get in the lane to the left.

With E. It does my head in when people sit in the middle lane and think just because they are doing 60 they can stay there all day because they might have to overtake a lorry in about 5 miles. THEN when you get fed up and overtake and move across in the far left lane they shake their head and call you the idiot!!! |

You're on the wrong motorways, at the wrong times!
