Default Stelvio 'Fly-Drive-Tour' 2013

Just an idea banging around in my head at the moment that I have had for a number of years.

Although it would be great to take the Subaru to Stelvio it's quite a long trip, and there is a fun alternative.

We all know that the only car that's quicker and handles better then a Subaru is a 'Rental' car, so thats the alternative.

Agenda :
Budget Flight, Gatwick to Milan (less then £100), 3Hr drive in foothills of the Alps
3-4 Days Car Rental - Fiat 500 sounds like fun, or Alfa or even Audi A1 Sport (£120 - £200 depending on car/spec)
Hotel in Bormio (18 mins from Stelvio) - Approx £100-£140 per head
Plus Hire Car Fuel, Food & Beer

Anyone up for it ?
If so I'll do some more research and plan to get something in the calendar for spring 2013.

Hmmmmm

So many options with a trip like this. The reality is that taking the scoob would cost ~£400 in vpower so flying/hire car would probably be cheaper as well as quicker!

I have been on about a driving holiday for ages.

I would love to do this but in the scoob,

I could meet you out there.

There must be some awesome tunnels over in that area too.

There's absolutely no reason why those wanting to take scoobs couldn't drive out and meet up at the hotel with those that wanted to fly

I know what you mean mate, but a group of us in gaggle of Fiat 500's (is that what you call more then 3 baby Fiat's) would be a right hoot.

I keep meaning to go see my relations in Norway and drive the Trollsteigan Pass http://www.visitnorway.com/uk/Where-...mountain-road/, but would want to take the Scoob over from Newcastle on the Ferry.

I did a bit of digging this and flying definitely seems the way to go unless you make it a week or more road trip, also it appears there are many who think its a bit of a let down due to the shear volume of traffic that is now using it including processions of cyclists, many have mentioned that there are better roads and tunnels around the same area than the pass itself.

Think I'll stick to Germany... I did the whole trip for £500 this year.... Plus you get to drive one of the best race tracks in the world

If I was going to drive a road like this it would have to be Pikes Peak For the money

Also when booking make sure it doesn't clash with the Tour of Italy bike race - Stelvio will be closed for one of the stages
