Nope! But both versions are built by Subaru. We tried to love the BRZ, and drove it back to back with the GT86 over the same roads, and the test route was over 100 miles, just to be sure we chose what suited us.

Was out at 6am this morning 'cos the traffic was light. Took an hour to buy some milk.

Are they that different to drive mate, notice people seem to be righting the subaru version off on the Ring a lot

Suspension is harder on the Roo James, and when it breaks away with these Michelin Primacy tyres, it is more sudden than the GT86, which is quite progressive. The back end is more controllable somehow on road surfaces, which the Ring is all about. On a good surface track, the Roo might have the edge.

Looks stunning in the black, brakes are a bit of a step backwards though!

Very nice Keith, and good choice on the colour. Not a fan of the copper/orangey colour but it seems to be popular....

Know what you mean, particularly after my wagon set-up. However, the car is very light and they sure work well on the road. We both gave the test-drive cars a lot of sustained braking over the 100 miles and they were more than adequate on the test, and we did some sustained braking from probably 70 miles per hour, particularly dual carriageway late braking up to roundabouts! No complaints.

Having said that, I might paint them black!

Does look very menacing. I knew it would be the Toyota, just had a feeling.

Looking forward to spotting the odd subtle mod here and there as time goes on.

First mod - changing the (I think naff) Toyota fender garnishes (Yank-speak) for the BRZ ones. These bits arrived before we even had the car! A bit more of a Subaru then!!

Second mod - a different boot spoiler is on order from Japan. That will be followed by exhaust mods once I hear one that I like!!

And so it starts! ...........lowering..........supercharger......... ..yadda yadda kit.....nobbly thing........

Litchfield are doing a lot of development work on them, I bet the Miltek system is pretty good!

Thanks for all your comments. It's a bit of a change for us going back to lightweight RWD but such fun! I miss the turbo shove from the wagon, but you can have great fun with this car at 30mph.

It's 1220kg and you can feel immediate pickup when you touch the throttle, even in 6th gear, because the direct injection delivers same torque from 2800 revs as above 4000. Quite unexpected. So although there is not much torque as standard, it is very efficiently delivered. So keeping to 4k revs for first 1000 miles-ish is not going to be the pain I thought it would be. Redline is at 7400 and the car was surprisingly lively on the test drives.

Half the weight of the car is at or below knee level, thanks mainly to the Subaru boxer, and you sit very low in the car, so it feels fast whatever you do. It exceeds my expectations. You can see how low the car is.

Thanks to Ron for taking us over to collect it in his new car!!

Exhaust is very quiet though, and has been suggested, a Milltek should provide more boxer warble. A group of owners are arranging an exhaust meet soon, so I will be able to experience different systems.

I can't believe how much tuning stuff is available for these cars already, even in the UK. Litchfield are doing amazing stuff as James pointed out, and I am already in contact with Abbey Motorsport in Surrey, who have invited me up to test drive their test mule in a week or so. I wonder where that will lead..............
