Anyone had any experience of the 2.2 Honda diesel lump as used in the Civics and Accords?
Looking at getting rid of the Passat as although it's good at the moment I realise that at 199K it only has so long left in it and don't want to find myself rushing to find a replacment if it were to give up on me. Drove a Civic diesel today and was really impressed with the car but just wondered if there were any problems I should look out for? Cheers Shane |

I must admit, I was surprised how noisy it was but put that down to it being a chain rather than a belt, lots of plus points over the VAG diesel lump, longer service interval, lower emissions so cheaper tax and no cam belt to worry about, looked at a newer Passat but didn't like the electronic hand brake, Seat Altea FR was nice but the roads I drive on and 18" wheels are asking for trouble.

A mate of mine has a Civic 2.2d and has been well pleased with it. It a little noisier than the German alternatives but nothing too noticeable. Stonking fuel economy and goes pretty well too. Being a Honda it'll be about as reliable as it gets I would think.

I think the only downside is the cloth cap, bad eyesight and poor knowledge of roundabout etiquette that comes as a standard feature. .

Can't be any worse that the yobbish, baseball cap wearing, inconsiderate, anti social image that comes from driving the Scoob, should counteract it quite well

I have a 2.2 diesel civic as well as the scoob, but my mum drives the civic.
Good engine, plenty of power too. I had 1 injector go and needed a new clutch - both around 90k. Oh yeah, fuel economy is great too - even with a heavy foot. Last edited by Foz50; 20-09-2014 at 05:46 PM. |

Cheers guys, sounds like they're a good buy
On a side note, it's worth popping into Mark Lilly diesels in Hawkhurst to drool over the 21000 mile Testarossa and mint RS200 in the showroom. |

There was a recent thread on sf.org which highlighted that you either get brilliant or terrible opinions about them, so you might find it tricky to decide.
I've not had one, but have a colleague with two, and Accord and CRV, and he loves them. |
