Hiya, I'm Ellie
First time I've had a Subaru and although I've only heard the engine of this, not driven it yet, it still has me smiling already! ![]() ![]() ![]() Managed to get this far on day one after an exam in the morning: ![]() Fingers crossed the parts all arrive tomorrow so I can go about that first drive! I apologise in advance for the fact I'll probably ask a few dumb questions along the way but I'm used to classic VW's

Roughly a week later between work and exams have made a bit of progress, both wings are off, new battery's in, front tyre been changed, bent wishbones out, driveshafts out gearbox end...struggling with the bloody nut at the other end though!
Managed to give it a good clean too as it was full of rubbish, could've taken a shovel to the boot old wishbone, tiny bit bent: ![]() ![]() ![]() ps the cable ties on the headlights are temporary!! just holding them in while the wings are off Also curious, am guessing this is part of the alarm system?

Great first post!
![]() Welcome to SES ![]() :wwelcome: :wwelcome: That bottom picture looks like a valve of some sort? Not sure personally, but plenty on here will let you know. NOS????? |

Thanks
Its a really wierd set-up, that thin hose goes all the way back to the spare wheel in the boot and is on the valve for that, only ideas I've had are the alarm system or some kind of system to hook a fire extinguisher to. I think NOS would be more fun though!! |

It's one or the other. My only thinking is the lack of a pull cord in sight, just a tap?

I haven't noticed a pull cord anywhere, but it looks like whatever the system is its been half taken out, are there any other places to look for tell tale signs?
I think i'd be right in saying the pipes run through to near the front wheels aswell, attached to the front wing and bumper connectors? |

Hiya, thanks for the warm welcome
Sorry for the delayed reply have been at work! I'm so-so on the rear lights too, they came on the car as its first owner was morette and it was there show car for a few years. Apparently they're worth a bit so am tempted to see what other rear lights are out there and sell these ones, but at the same time am thinking if they've been with the car that long would be a shame to separate them. Lol, wait how quickly that mind set changes though when I see a set of lights I prefer!!! |

Hello & welcome matey. Look to the blob eye for rear lights & sell the rears you have in Ireland. If the wishbone is still ok then take your time with a very good drill. :EVO:

All done! Well except the paint job but its taxed/mot'd/insured and driveable so had my first go in it today...was awesome!!!
Very short gears, i've ever driven an impreza before but guessing thats normal? |

Booked in at the mechanics tomorrow to give it a engine and suspension checkover to make sure I fixed it ok?!
VIC test booked for next wednesday and booked into the bodyshop for the third week in february...not long and it'll be all checked and painted back to its former glory! |

Good to hear its making progress. And yes, short gearing is normal. Not actully that short but just gets there quick!!

Heres a few photos of it at the minute, rough round the edges waiting on paintwork but still gets heads turning!
![]() ![]() ![]() Don't know if i'm describing the short gears right, might just be my driving but basically as you accelerate (pedal to the metal style lol) it hits around 4/5000 rpm then looses all power and the needles flips up to over the red lines, I have held the pedal so that it doesn't go so quickly over 4/5000 rpm but then the acceleration isn't as quick as I thought it'd be for the power of the car! Like I say though could be my driving?! |

d'oh, just looking at those photos and noticed I've put the subaru front badge on upside down?!

Its peak power will be around 4500 rpm (the shove in the back bit!) and then it will tail off but shouldn't just fall away completely. Maybe worth getting it RR'd and mapped when its back on the road. Always good to check everything is as it should be.

Was thinking about a quick RR, its technically a WRX but has the red manifold that looks like an STi engine so hopefully the power will be a give away!

As above Simon is your best bet - I'm up at SRR on the 16th for a remap sure he'll still have spaces.
Not sure it will be an STI lump as the UK300 was a special edition before the STi Bug was released in the UK: The UK300 was a joint project between engineers at Subaru (UK) Limited and Prodrive Limited of Banbury, with major styling work carried out by Peter Stevens who designed the famous McLaren F1 and Subaru WRC rally car. As it name suggests it was uniquely available in the UK and limited to 300 units. Key changes include new headlamps featuring black gloss shells with twin high-intensity Hella light units identical to the Impreza rally car. Sitting above the twin lights are small diameter circular indicators. The new Peter Stevens designed front and rear aerodynamic aids reduce high-speed lift, enhancing tyre grip and handling control. For example, at 100 mph, front lift is reduced from 35.6 lbs to 27.8 lbs while rear lift goes down from 29.6 lbs to 20.7 lbs - a reduction of 25.6 per cent. Only one colour has been specified for the UK300 - WR Blue Mica - which is also extended to the WRX's standard deep side skirts The UK300 also boasts gold-coloured OZ 10-spoke alloy wheels measuring 18 ins by 7.5 ins and carrying the latest 225/40 Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres - up from the standard WRX's already generous 17 x 7 ins alloys with 215/45 tyres. Other exterior enhancements include white side indicators and white front markers. Inside, the UK300 features blue suede-effect seats - the front being the rally-style bucket type - plus matching door inserts. The potential collector's car also has special deep-pile carpet and boot mats plus a limited edition numbered plaque. Not only the exterior and interior are upgraded but the engine was fitted with the Prodrive WR Sport package. The secret to the £1,600 Prodrive WR Sport performance pack option is a reprogrammed Electronic Control Unit (ECU), uprated intercooler piping and free-flow exhaust system with a large single tailpipe. Both power and torque have benefitted from the package with a power increase from 218 bhp to 245. Looking at your pics I'd say little of the UK300 remains due to the full Morrette body kit and lights. UK300: ![]() ![]() Morrette Kit

It's a weird one as I'm not entirely sure its a uk300 either, it has 17" alloys and doesn't have the blue interior, so I'm wondering if someone just added the plaque (its stuck on the dash) and carpet set. I'm trying to find if anyone has number 172 but doesn't have their plaque might be the answer!

Update
Took this to JollyGreenMonster today for a rolling road check on it, the clutch is too far gone to run it on the rolling road but it turns out it has an STi engine and ECU fitted so a bit of an upgrade to what I thought it was running! Just about to drop it off to the bodyshop next week and in the mean time will get searching for a clutch to take it straight to the garage once the paints sorted |

Exedy clutch kit Godspeed disc brakes/pads/braided hoses all round STi intercooler STi scoop STi instrument cluster Also planning on getting the cambelt done while the clutch is getting fitted, tossing up between full cambelt kit or just the belt itself, whats everyones opinion on that kind of thing? |

I 100% recommend him, he does a really good job without charging the earth and is a nice guy too, I brought a new scoop I haven't fitted yet too and a couple of days before the car was done asked if he could paint it up too, he did it without charging any extra.

Personally i would keep it for all the hard work you have put into it so far and for the plans you still have in mind, september will come round quick enough and you'll be soon back to enjoy it before you know it.

True, I have a huge soft spot for it as it's nice to know I helped to keep it "alive".
Was also thinking having done all the big things like clutch/cambelt etc I should keep it as if I got something different when I got back and the cambelt snapped or something I'd kick myself. Should book it for a remap when I get back too so there's even more to look forward to! |

I'm hoping I'll be allowed to drive it over...there are a few decent tunnels on the way!!
The issue is where to keep it, I'm checking out if I'd be allowed to keep it on site but its a private villa that crazy rich people rent and they're going to want their supercars on show Thanks for the replies, made me definitely want to keep it..worst comes to worst I'll have to leave it in the capable hands of my father (he drives like a nutter?!)

I'd keep it if you can. Being completely honest, its only going to be worth around the £3k - £3.5k mark at best. The fact that its had damage will devalue it and its not really going to hold any extra value for being a uk300 considering its not got the original lights/rear spoiler/front splitter and looks so different from a uk300 now.
