if not, i think some of the earlier versions of java chat rooms are free so if theres server space, i suppose they could do it.
having said that, it would require some chatroom moderators to be on line most of the time.
while most of us on here seem sensible enough, there will no doubt at some point be the odd heated arguement which will need chat-mods to temp-ban people to cool off.
and chatrooms often get visitid by retards just lookin for somewhere 2 cause trouble.

I suspect it will probably get discussed by admin, but theres a lot of things to consider and resources needed to run a chat room

Andy, You have just raised all of the issues that go with it.

We have spoken about it in the past and I actually agree with the idea in principal.

One of the solutions if everyone played ball is the "fight club" section. This was opened as a no holds barred, clear the air section. I will copy this thread to Admin and then the staff room for discussion.

Keep the ideas coming though folks

Could we make the chat room for people with over, say 30 posts to stop 'Tards' using it?

i doubt it.
digichat would be a seperate programe to the forum software.
while they may run on the same server, i dont think the user list from the forums will be usable by digichat/A.N.Other.
with digichat, you just type a user name, which dont have 2 be registered and you can change as and when you like

and thats another problem chatroom moderators wil face:-

for example, I could go in to digichat and input the username "WRX Paul" and then inform everyone in the chatroom that they have underdeveloped man-sausages.

High level chat moderators would have to check my IP. they would have to have some mod abilities in forums to see the IP of posts you and i have made in forums and only then could they work out it was me and not you that just went in chat n started trouble.

by the time theyve done this, people already think you've just kicked off in chat n even if/when you get proven innocent, people that dont know you already in chat now have bad experience of "WRX paul" and the damage is done.

And on top of all that, you me and everyone else on here can change our IP address' and then the mods dont stand a chance of working out who just pretended to be you in the chatroom unless the troublemaker slipped up

and even then, if they find out it was me and ban my IP, i can change it and get back in. If they then give me a host-name ban, they also ban everyone else form the same ISP in my area, which they wont want 2 do.

Moderating chatrooms can be a headache if someone vindictive enough wishes to be a pain in the backside

dont get me wrong, I think a chatroom on here would b a great idea.
i;m just pointing out theres a whole lot of potential problems people can face with it and the people responsible for setting up and running it will no doubt think about it before saying yes/no

Surrey had a chat room. A lot of spammers and other unwanted things got to the site through it apparently
