Default Trip to france

Hi All
We have on a few occasions spoken about a trip to france, but have never got around to it.

I would like to start a thread to see what sort of interest there is.
The rough idea was to go over for a few days, stay in a nice hotel, take in the tastes of france.

Looking for ideas from people:
Where to stay
Ferry or train
What to do when there
When to go
ETC

This a great idea,

A while ago on another site I posted up,
the idea of having a drive to the south of france and stay in static caravan on a site somewhere on the Cote d' azur.
If you have never been its the muts nuts !!!!!!!!!!
You can even drive round the Monarco GP circuit !!
How cool would that be a S.E.S convoy through the tunnels of Monarco, and thats what you call a tunnel run.

Always been up for a trip across to France. Even if it's just a pre Christamas booze cruise.

So count me in for sure on any option.

Good response guys and gals
I think a booze cruise before christmas, just head over on the ferry/tunnell say on a sat morning, stay sat night then return some time on the sunday.

Then plan a run either to the ring or the south of france for middle of 2009.

Had quick look at Euro tunnell deals
Example, If we were to go on Sat 6th December and return Sunday 7th December it is £64
Had a look at hotels in an around calais looking at about 65 euros for 3 star

Given the choice, I would always choose the ferry.

was just looking at december as a rough date. Did not realise i had looked at same date as rally GB. We can go to france on the following sat. Or any date that suits all. Ferry is cool with me. Better fun too. Dover to calais is only about an hours crossing. Time to get some details up and a list of those up for it. I will put links up for the 4 hotels in calais that are 3 star. Once we decide on acomodation we can get on with sorting numbers etc.

I personally would prefer the week after if possible, but would go with the flow!

Can I suggest that if we get a list going, collect a small deposit?

By the way, Laura want's to know if there are any 5 start hotels in the area Don't worry thogh, I will just drop her off and come back to the real hotel ......................... this is only a jest by the way................ I think............................. it had better be................................... Oi Mrs G, this is a joke right???

Steve
I hope you have told Laura we dont want her dancing on tables with her knockers out.

Ok i have had a few thoughts and have had a bit of time to search the web.
Basically there is nowt in Calais,My idea is we stay in Lille, its no more than an hours drive from Calais, which lets face it is half the reason for us going.

There are 30 plus hotels to chose from ranging from about £60 for a double to £250 for a double.( 3 Star to 5 Star)( For Laura)

Lille also has some excelent restaurants, museums, shops etc
This ticks most of the boxes, around £90 for a double and private parking for 12 euro
http://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/express ... 2008-12-14

And the higher end of accomodation.
http://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/allianc ... 539c752325

Not forgetting one for Steves Mrs
http://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/carlton ... 539c752325
Check the Coupole suit 1250 Euros

What you all think?

Please add your preferences to list
Calais or Lille
Ferry (Sea France £52)or tunnel(£64)
Hotel budget £60to£100(3*),£100to£150(4*),£150to£200(5*)
Dates: Nov 29th or 13th Dec

1 Martyn - Lille - Ferry - 3 or 4 Star - prefer 29th.

Looks good.
Customer reviews are good, most say rooms are big and modern.
The hotel is 12k from city centre, but is only 15 mins walk to underground.
The hotel is on a business park, which means nice size car park with hotel.

Built in 2004, Olivarius Apart'Hotel is a new concept unique in Europe. Olivarius offers 112 apartments. Inside the hotel, you will find olives trees.

Olivarius can provide you with any variety of apartment depending on your needs, each apartment is equipped with a dvd player, a television, home theatre and a kitchen fully equipped. You will have unlimited, free Internet access via a broadband service. Our Bar Lounge has beautiful and comfortable sofas from Pakistan and Rajhastan, where you can enjoy our selection of music.

Can everyone confirm what type of appartment they require.
Double or family

I have had a look at all availability on ferry's, starting to get a little bit more limited now.
Do we all agree we should depart Dover around about 09.30 on the sat and return from Calais around 16.00 on the Sunday.

shall i reserve a number of rooms now,as i can always cancel or change the numbers if need be.

Cheers all

Hey all, guess who checked his passport and found its run out!!!!

Yep, Me!
Good job i got time to get a new one.

We will all need to book the ferry ourselves as they will need names, vehicle details etc etc

I will book the hotel on a credit card and we can all sort it out on the day.

This is my suggested ferry.
Please all hold off booking until next Thursday,as Worzel will be back from holiday then. We all want to be on same ferry.

Route Depart Arrive/Duration
Dover to Calais Sat 29 Nov 08 08:00 10:15 1hr 15min
Calais to Dover Sun 30 Nov 08 16:45 17:00 1hr 15min

Well done Baz.
Safe to say we will have to take it very easy, dont want anyone getting into trouble.

Can i suggest we all book the ferry tomorrow evening.

Example of P & O , i have added club Lounge as i like the complementry champagne and comfy seats.
Outward Dover - Calais Sat 29 Nov 2008 08:30 £52.00
Options 1 x Club Lounge
Return Calais - Dover Sun 30 Nov 2008 16:10 £42.00
Options 1 x Club Lounge
Includes 1 adult , Car , Fuel surcharge £4.00

Not cheap at £98 with club lounge, £74 Without

If we want to go at some more antisocial times we can get the price right down,as shown below.

Outward Dover - Calais Sat 29 Nov 2008 05:30 £20.00
Options None
Return Calais - Dover Sun 30 Nov 2008 16:10 £30.00
Options None
Includes 1 adult , Car , Fuel surcharge £4.00

Total £54

The choice is your guys and girls.
I am happy,so long as its a smooth crossing

The ferry times of the first option look good to me.

I have just looked at the P&O site and to sum it up,
it costs £12 each way for a complementary glass of champers.

Personally I would go for the cheaper option as I am not sure whether I will employed then.

But that said, I dont want to be Billy no mates sitting on my own in with the poor people,
(not to keen on champers anyway)

I will of course go with the majority.

Looking forward to this trip. Hopefully go further a field next year the SOUTH OF FRANCE

By the way how much does the B&B cost will there be a group booking discount?

All booked matey!

Did you get offered the priority loading for £12.00 (first on first off?) I asked if I could "upgrade" as I will be with 6 other cars and the woman I spoke to said yes.

What do people think?

Ok people "Update"

I have provisionally booked hotel, what a bloomin palava.
At the moment they only have 4 doubles available.
They are going to email me with the other options.
I requested 6 doubles,although i am happy to have a single.

As soon as i have the info i will post it.

The cost is 66 british pounds per couple.
If possible could i ask for a cheque for the £66 from all couples.

Cheers

11/1 - Worzel to get injured somehow
13/1 - Crow STi to scuff another alloy during loading of the ferry
16/1 - Baz & Shaz to have thier names changed by french deed poll so they can be pronounced "Bay & Shay"

What about twins ?????????

Get a better nights sleep that way.

Most hotels in france have twins rather than doubles.

Has anybody seen this, this is attached to the booking confirmation.

Hotel policies
These are general hotel policies. As they may vary per room type; please also check the room description.
Deposit
A fixed amount of EUR 300 per room will be charged on the day of booking and is refundable.
Cancellation policy
If cancelled up to 1 day before the date of arrival, no fee will be charged.
If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the first night will be charged.

We have booked by the way but worried about the 300euro deposit lol

Funny isn't it Martyn, we tried for years to get this trip going with no joy what so ever. Two months in and we managed to get this done. Different stuff alltogether.

Just think, this time next year when we do it AGAIN there may be twice as many?

I have just checked my insurance.

From what I can make out everyone should be covered, but 3rd PARTY ONLY.

So to be covered FULLY COMP. it has just cost £26, that is because their minimum extra cover is 90 days.

Not long now !!!!!!!!!!!
