Default Issues

Just got back with the car, 7 hours it took because of traffic but was meant to take 4 and a half hours.

Anyway, the car is amazing and faultless apart from the fact it has 3 gauges (look like they were fitted from standard), it's Oil Pressure, Oil Temp and Boost, they are STi Genome gauges but none of them work, they don't like up, the needles don't move. Where would I start to check what's wrong with them?

Also having to get another double din stereo as the current one is in Japanese and the sat nav is obviously for Japan, how do I get the stereo out? I cant see any slots for keys..

Thanks

The gauges should have a control box if they are the Defi Genomes, not sure where it should be located though. Power comes from the box I believe and each gauge is probably daisy chained, therefore no supply from box means none of the gauges will work. Hopefully just needs a bit of wire tracing. Not fitted Defis myself but plenty on here have so they should be able to help more.

As above for the gauges - as for the stereo you have to pull the dash surround out - I'm not 100% on the Hawkeye dash but it looks like you will have to remove the air vents and the gear stick surround first.

Power goes to the control unit shown above aswell as sensor connectors (different shape and size per each sensor). The gauges are then daisy chained off this.

You should have a Defi badged rectangular boot pressure sensor near to the boost control solenoid/drivers strut tower.

I'm not sure on the OE fit for the Oil Sensors but likely to be under the alternator and in the block above No,3 between turbo outlet and intercooler pipe.

Ah I see. When I was sent the pictures of the car I could see the control box. When I picked the car up the control was removed and I asked what it was and why it was gone and they said it was something to do with a prepaid card in Japan or some rubbish.

I'll get on the phone to them. If they sent me some money could I get another control box or does it need to be that one? How much would I expect to pay for the box? Also is it hard to fit? Assuming the wires haven't been cut.

Not cheap but as I believe the std Defi box is exactly the same apart from the STi logo easy to get hold of (even new).

The gauges need the box and vica-versa.
I have heard a lot of stuff goes missing in transit unfortunately.

You will struggle to get the STi Genome box and I'm not sure the regular Defi controller is compatible : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Defi-Link-...EAAOSwiYFXKhfZ

You would need to speak to a Defi shop/dealer

Before you run out and get the controller check all the sensors are there otherwise it's going to cost a small fortune to get back up and working.

Great.. I don't understand why they'd just take the control box though? I'll go out now and check the sensors.

Because it looked nice and they didn't know what it was and thought it wouldn't be missed.

Sounds like they are saying it was the
Etc box. Stands for electronic toll collection. Or something like that.

But big difference between the 2 . The defi boxes as above are really expensive even second hand

Thanks. I may take you up on that. I've found the boost sensor, trying to find the others. Also I have a thing connected to the battery I've just noticed which says Hot Inazma Type MR with a red and green light.. Any idea what this is for?

to get at the stereo just remove the gearstick trim as shown in pic then you can get at the two screws to remove trim round stereo - then stereo will be held in by 4 machine screws holding the stereo bracket to the car - when you change stereos just swap the bracket onto the new one and it will all bolt back in perfectly

edit - iirc the top of stereo surround is held in with push fit clips - a bit of gentle tugging will get it free , bit tricky the first time then after you know how its easy

Thanks I've just got it out. I'm now stuck with the wiring lol. It looks a complete mess. I've bought a double din headunit from Halfords, I haven't picked it up yet. Does anyone know if I need an adapter for it as it doesn't appear to look the same as the standard UK ones I have fitted..

You almost certainly will need an adapter, but I'm afraid I don't know which one as I haven't changed over the head unit in mine... it's been on the to do list, but never got to the top.

If you get really stuck, I could look to see what my current one has, as it is after market, so is likely to be similar, given its a similar aged JDM Subaru (could be wishful thinking).

Oil pressure-will have sandwich plate between oil filter, think it picks up temp there too,as said little black box with pipe connected sits by boost solenoid usually, my fozz had a toll unit in which was removed, but you should have the control unint pictured above without that there won't work dude
