Long shot I know but does anyone on here own an s2000 by any chance? Preferably an ap1 but an ap2 will suffice

Was wondering if someone had one if they would mind taking me out in it, looking to buy one but drove a complete dog at the weekend but it did have 18's on it which I think was the problem, there's no more local so was a stab in the dark to see if anyone had one?

A very different type of drive.
Didn't float my boat and struck me as a car that will quite happily put you through a hedge backwards. Just look at the nurburg crash videos. As soon as an s2000 comes into view you know exactly what's going to happen. |

I've got a civic type r ep3 now but quite fancy steering from the rear again and the one I drove was tail happy which is what I want, it's hard to explain but when you hit bump the whole car sort of chassis flexis if that makes any sense? I know you get a bit of that anyway being a cab but the one I drove was horrendous which I'm assuming was the massively wide 18's that someone had put on. The highest wheel size standard is 17's, I just want to go out in another one preferably local to see if I actually want one because I have found a minter but it's 178 miles away, bit dear to go for a car that your not sure that you want till you drive it!!

LOL.....the thought of you and Tim on a day trip to Brighton, in the S2000.......
I think that's the reason Rob sold his, after a comment his missus made when we returned with the roof down. There are not many soft-tops that two hetrosexual's can enjoy, without the odd knod and wink ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I didn't as never got comfortable in it, anyone over 5ft 11 I reckon would struggle as seats don't recline enough fully back. It was a early car and felt twitchy on corners. Build quality wad good although alloys needed a refurb quite early on in it's life, think this was an issue Honda would have covered under warranty though.

I chopped one in to get my Impreza. Was a good car, fun to drive but I alwys had to be ready for it to try and swap ends on me, even when driving gently. The rear end slip was not very progressive on the OEM tyres, but this was helped by moving to tyre with a softer compound.
Anyway, there is no UK AP2. That code refers to US models which were sold with a 2.2l engine. All UK models retained the AP1 code but there were various revisions made throughout the years. Reminds me, I've still got a set of white wheels / tyres in the shed I was supposed to get sold! |

Ah yes I found out about the ap2 earlier I thought that was 04/05 onwards but as you say it's us model. White wheels you say???
Think I'm off to get one at the weekend, look forward to getting chewed up and spat out then shall I? |

They aren't the axe-murderers that a lot of people claim, so you shouldn't get spat out!

Yeah it works, looks really nice mate how long did you have it. Did it leak like all cabs?

2 years, and it was 2 years old when I got it. Only time water came into the cab was a slight accident with a pressure washer. There is a tiny mod you can do to the roof frame to prevent against wear caused by lowering / raising the roof. Later models also have a glass rear window, earlier models had a crap plastic screen.
I won't tell you they never leak, but in the time I had it, it wasn't a problem. |

I heard about this mod but havn't looked into it properly yet. Ok thanks a lot, did you find it chassis flexed a lot over bumps or bumpy roads? It's the only way I know how to explain it where you hit a bump and it goes all wallowy if you get what I mean?

Not particularly. I guess there is a bit of that given the lack of a roof, but it was designed as a soft top from the outset rather than a tin top that has the roof chopped thereafter. I had the geometry all changed on mine shortly after getting it which certainty seemed to be beneficial.
The roof 'mod' is to get a neoprene tube that is designed to stop the chain knocking and tking paint off a mountain bike frame. You need two of them, one for left and right side if the roof. They wrap round a particular part of the roof frame and its job done. Takes 2 mins to do. |

I have but I'm still having doubts as my type r is so good and me and the mrs have had it 3+1/5 years between us without fault!! You only live once I suppose, just be a shorter life in the s2000!!!

I had an EP3 before the S2000. There were times when I wished I hadn't got rid of it because the Civic is a great all round car. A 2 seater with limited boot space has huge drawbacks and whilst the Civic is hardly a large car it is significantly more useful than the S.
But just as you question the decision, a sunny day with the roof down and a B road blast reminds you why you did it! |

Ah yes very true, Saturday shopping then I believe! Any reasons you would tell me not to buy one bar the fact they are a handful? To be honest that's the only reason im buying one!

As long as you get a good one, no reason at all that I can think of. Some of the best driving fun you can have without AWD and a turbo!
