I know he was meant to be a top notch chopper jockey. He didn't have the license to do what he did though!
Brilliant driver but in my opinion should of stayed clear of the chopper.

don't go on scoobynet and look at there thread on there, mcrae is now being compared to gary glitter, micheal barrymore, etc. It was a very bad error of judgement that shouldn't of happened if he had been following the rules and the loss of life is very sad but nothing can change it now.

A real shame however you look at it, one bad judgement call and four lives lost, he was a brilliant driver and a really good role model for motor racing, in my eyes he will never be replaced.
We must never lose sight of what he has done for us and motor sport!
Simon.

He was a legend but his nickname when he started top level rallying sums him up well...Collin Mcrash....he was always on the limit but a name that followed him to his and unfortunatley the others grave.

The way the media have interpreted the comments about his licensing issues have annoyed me somewhat; he was out of check, yes, but they portray it as if he never had the relevant training on that type. As with all things aviation in the UK though, you must be "legal to crash" and McRae wasn't.

Sadly the view of some of those within the aviation community of McRae isn't great. There are a few folks who have seen the video taken onboard and I understand its a fairly damming indication as to how he was flying on the day. I would like to read the final AAIB report as, given the tone of the news reports so far, I assume they are certain it was nothing more than pilot error - or its possible that the media have skimmed the report and drawn from it what they want to make a good headline...

As for the Scoobynet comments - and as I said on Surrey earlier - just proves what a bunch of ****wits the vast majority of posters on there are.

Irrespective though, he is still to be respected as a huge talent behind the wheel and his death is a massive loss to the world of rally and motorsport in general (in my opinion).

Having read through the thread on Scabbynet just one poster makes the Gary Glitter comment and it reads like it tongue-in-cheek - I hope thats the case or it may well rate as one of the most retarded things I've ever read on there (and thats quite an achievement!).

its just one of those sad stories,if it was a total stranger to use all that had done the same we would have said"what a total ****"!
the outcome is the same
i guess all the good he had done in his earlier life means nothing to the other greiving family!!
i do understand.
if a vicker without a driving licence crashed into and killed a member of your family i guess you might feel the same.its a marmite one!!
but it is a terrible report and as they are the leading people to deal with it and the video evidence,im sure must be true.

The media are portraying the pilots licence in the same context as a car driving license which isn't really correct (how unusual for the papers). The wording in some articles I've read now are making its sound like McRae was completely unqualified and had never had any formal training on type.

im sure they felt there was a case to answer hence the enquiry, these people do not make stuff up its all based on facts, and it reads that some serious errors were made, massive risks were taken, and the results we all know!
yes he was a great sportsperson!its just a shame he took a liberty hooning around and putting unnessasary risks into what is allready a dangerous form of travel.
thank god it crashed in a remote area!!!!(i guess that was only luck)
