Default Best engine builder

From my Snet post:

It looks like I may have to have a rebuild by a specialist as I don't even like changing brakes, so no chance I could do it myself.

I did have in mind who I was going to use, but have seen a couple of comments recently that has put me off.

I'd only like to hear from people that have actually had an engine built by whoever they are recommending please.

I've used the search button on here and a few other forums and all I seem to get is "you only hear good things about such and such..." Are they speaking from experience, or just seeing what everyone else has said they are good and the sheeps just follow :wonder:

I want to get it right as I've never had an engine let go, and it would just have to happen on the one that cost me the most Looking to keep it near standard as don't want the gearbox in my Type R to let go, plus it's my daily so 350bhp tops will be fine.

If anyone has anything bad to say about a certain company could you PM me rather than post it on here.

Many thanks

If you are willing to ship your engine up to scotland i would recommend Steve Whitson of SW Motorsport as that is where my type r is at the moment getting an engine build he is well known and none of his engine builds have never went on his customers .

If you only want 350 a standard Jdm ej20 from import car parts with your current heads rebuilt would be all you need if you want a new build.
I've used stew at Tfs for a 2.5 build , fully forged and it worked spot on with no issues. Ran 525hp and still is with the guy I sold engine me and turbo to .
Problem is that in all trades if you do it right no one says anything, but if you do 1 thing wrong. People scream !
Currently have a engine built with the assistance of mike l on here but he only build for friends

Horses for courses with engine builds!

My engine was built by Andy Williams of Williams motorsport and has been an excellent engine but did suffer a HG issue after about 3 years at 450ish BHP. It's since been rebuilt again by Andy with new Cosworth HGs. So one piece of advice would be don't get Cometic gaskets!

Paul Finch and ASPerformance always get good feedback but as CJ has said unless you are trying to reuse the original block to keep the car a matching numbers car then a new or even used block with your heads rebuilt would be a good option.

If you plan to reuse your old block then speak to a range of builders see what they suggest/offer and then go with whoever makes the most sense to you!

Slow boy racing in Kent did Juras build which seemed pretty good, but budget for new oil modine and pump as a part of the build, I also went for a new water pump and sump at the same time.

For 350 bhp I would not waste money building an engine, but simply buy a used newage STI short block and bolt your heads to it (no avcs control on the type R ecu).. building a lump seems excessive when the newage STI one will cope with well over 400bhp.

TFS racing in Aldershot. Give Stu a bell and he'll give you advice on anything you want.
