Default Sti shocks - are they an upgrade ?

Sti shocks - are they an upgrade ?

A mate of mine had a wr1 a few years ago ,,, he got it at 40k miles and first thing he did was put adjustable shocks on it - hes since got rid of the car and told me i could collect all his leftover parts from his garage where they have been stored

So i got a ss exhaust ( unknown make and no way to identify ) tail pipe and straight thru center section

4 x red shocks - from the wri so presuming sti ,,, i see lots of problems with these on internet so at first was thinking to see about putting them on my wrx300 but not sure if a - theyll even fit if inverted ,, b- would add anything apart from possible knocking noises

Also picked up a rear arb and droplinks - mechanic seemed to think it was an uprated one which was taken off when car was mostly returned to standard wr1 spec prior to sale - any way to identify the arb as scooby or aftermarket ?

I havent any issues with my shocks, exhaust or antiroll bar atm so just working out if any of this needs to go in the loft or be cleaned up and got ready to go on the car ,, any input would be welcomed

Nick

The WR1 Red shocks and matching red springs are the best Macpherson strut setup for the narrow-track Blob.
If fitting to WRX300 from a similar era they will fit but you will need to swap the top mounts on the rears.
I did that recently on a mates WRX. Not sure if the swap was required, as I didn't check for differences, we just did it anyway as that was the rumour and all was good.
Sat a nice bit lower too......

Aaah ggod info thanks for that - the shocks are indeed red and looking in good condition visually ,, we couldnt find the springs and/or remember if the sti springs were used/kept/buried somewhere so at the moment its just the shocks i have ,,, ,, not sure if my wrx300 has the standard shocks on or prodrive springs etc so shall have to look and see but at 100k id guess whatever is in there could do with a refresh maybe

Im hopeful the rear arb is whiteline item which will be great if so - it had a sticker on with B------ markings but it was covered in grease or something and when i wiped the grease off the sticker the letters went with the grease !
Studying the net a little it looks like it could be a whiteline item as its silver or are all rear arbs silver ? Ir std scooby ones would be silver ?

Thanks for info re the rear mounts etc ,, not sure if ill use these shocks yet so ill probably clean them up then shrinkwrap them and stick them in the shed for now

Yup they are yellow indeed ! Sounds like good news then ,, should i start looking for some uprated drop links to go on with it or just use whats there already on the car ? - no knocks etc atm so presuming my droplinks are ok atm although past experience on other cars tells me they often dont undo very well without a struggle
