Oooh mate you are just the man.

We recently took up a screeded floor and a new guy I have recently started (and just sacked) went through 2 water pipes and a gas pipe that was in the screed.

I've just been hit with a £ 660.00 plumbers bill and wondered if that was about right?

Also the gas pipe was a 15mm copper pipe which I am pretty sure is illegal but I'm not 100%.

I've spent time on The Net but cant find the answers.

In 11 yrs we have gone through one pipe. That f**kin idiot of a human went through 3 in two hours and when the gas pipe was removed he had hit that 7 times.

Can't help on the price enquiry mate but for what seems like an 'emergency' call out repair...I would expect thats probably pretty good? (if that was the case)

Not the sort of 'mistakes' you need people to be making when the works hard enough to come by and the profit margins are probably down to get the work in the first place!

Hope things are picking up for you, I know you was having to work much harder to just get the jobs....... I need to know how your doing as up at RCM next week and Matt, Olly always ask after you

Sounds pretty dear to me' although obviously haven't seen the job. Did he itemise the cost? Presumably the pipe was already exposed due to you raising the screed (easy fix)? Or did he re route the gas and water supplies?
Nothing wrong with a 15mm gas pipe. The size relates to the volume of gas it's transmitting and over what distance.mthis is dictatated by what appliances are in the premises. As an aside the gas pipe should of been wrapped in denso tape to protect it from corrosion.

How long was the plumber there?

i'm a D&B mech building services estimator so I price this stuff but on commercial/industrial scale.

15ø for a gas pipe is fine. the size depends on the flow rate and the pressure loss so if that's what was there before and you have had no problems then I wouldn't worry about it.
Think of it like your scoob exhaust. 3" is less restrictive than 2.5, but a long enough 3" would be the just as restrictive as a short 2.5" because its longer. that's basically how gas pipework is sized.

My only concern would be copper pipe in screed. if you install copper pipe in screed or cement or where it passes through walls, it has to be wrapped in something as the screed/concrete will eat away at the copper.
Usually for copper pipework laid in screed, we use stuff precoated in a plastic shroud and ensure there is no joints within the screed with all bends being pulled bends, or the ensure pipe run is covered in denso tape, or a combination of both.

Don't know much about plumbing, but a few weeks ago one of the properties we own reported had a leak under the floor.Plumber came in took up the floor, repaired the leak and replaced the floor.Total cost £80.00,so your bill does sound steep.
