The trader should have filled out the Yellow strip and given it to the seller to send off. If the seller did this then DVLA would have record of when the trader took possesion. You could then cross reference this against the MOT date. But from what you said its was MOT'd not long before you bought it. So its looking mighty like the Trader MOT'd it ready for sale.

Its unlikely someone looking to PX a car in at a garge will get it MOT'd just before doing so.

By the shear virtue that have come back with an offer sais allot to me.. Keep on at them until you are happy with whatever they offer.

p.s Not sure when you bought it, but you do realise you have 3 months warranty from a trader regardless of what they tell you. Its you legal right.!
