I can only talk for newage cars, although I guess classics may have the same differences.

Generally there is around 45BHP difference between a WRX and a WRX STi on standard cars. The STi has better brakes, better suspension, stronger internals, larger turbo, 6 speed box, obvious cosmetic differences, upgraded interior etc....

The STi is also more expensive to insure, more expensive to run (fuel) and is not as comfortable as a WRX as an every day car, so I guess it depends what you want. A remapped WRX with some suspension tweaks is always a good bet aswell. An STi with a remap and suspension tweaks is awesome!
