British GT Championship R1 2016 – Brands Hatch
Last weekend was the opening round of the British GT Championship. I only went last year on a whim, but I ended up really impressed by the quality of the field, so I thought I’d check it out again this year.
Here come the snaps…
I am still seriously in love with the Z4 GT3, but it had some serious competition for best looking car at Brands…
…this is the new Huracan GT3 and it looks awesome on track.
Really
awesome.
There were a number of supporting races, but the Quaife Saloon Championship was easily my fave. The entry included retro Fords, modern Japanese machinery, ex-works racers, a classic Camaro and loads of Escort Cossies.
The lone Bentley Tankinental qualified in first and was leading the race for the first fourty minutes. A massive crash on Pilgrims Drop caused a course yellow and the field closed up again…
…once all the teams had pitted and swapped drivers it was the TF Aston Martin that led. Jonny Adam went on to take the win and set a new British GT lap record in the process.
Unfortunately a car fire cut the race short by 20 minutes which wasn’t a great end to the day. Means I’m looking forward to more GT cars at Brands in a couple of weeks even more though!
