No, you won't need the code.

the battery has been changed numerous times on mine and i've never needed it.

UK300 were bugeyes (~2001) so different to your WRX300. The bugeye cars had an extra board added to the ECU by Prodrive to manage boost control (crudely

) as part of the PPP. This would have been removed if the car as remapped again so the original ECU could manage the boost again.
You won't have this on a blobeye as Prodrive changed the way they did it in approx 2003 - your ECU can be mapped as normal.
