British Rallycross Championship R1 2013 - Lydden Hill
Last weekend was the opening round of the British Rallycross Championship at Lydden Hill. The weather was, to be brutally honest, absolutely awful on the Saturday; rain, wind, rain, cold and more rain. Thankfully things improved a bit on the Sunday and we even got a bit of sunshine: was still rather cold though!
Thankfully the racing was really good over both days, but the finals on the Sunday were definitely the highlight, with a couple of really close finishes and some good scraps on the way to the flag.
As ever my camera was on, so here you go…
I’d say the anti-lag is definitely on:
Top tip: two wheel drive is generally more effective if you keep the front wheels in contact with the ground!
A future shape in Rallycross? Prodrive were testing a MINI WRC on track in between the Saturday practise and heats…
…I still think it’s one of the worst looking rally cars in history: but I have to confess it sounded really good.
Yep, definately looks no better from the side either! If the rumour I heard in the paddock was true though, then a couple of these will be seeing rallycross use in the US before the end of the year.
The highlight of the weekend. 5500+BHP is unleashed for the Supercar final:
Coming in hot!
A bit of Volvo content…
…including grannies estate!
Less than a week until the European Rallycross Championship kicks off at Lydden: I can’t wait!
