I tinted the windows on my old van, didnt use a heat gun but im sure it helps, basically cut it to size with loads of overhang got the window and tint film completly soaked with soapy water then placed it on the window and got it centered, used a rubber squegee and worked from the center outwards and when it got to the edges just trimmed the excess film off when when the squegee pushed it to the edge as i went, turned out great no air bubbles or ripples
