my 1st attempt at doing a vynil wrap

did the centre console and drivers/passengers air vents with a matt carbon fiber look vynil wrap. 1st time using the stuff so I tried a few small bits. will attempt the speedo cluster surround tomorrow.
seemed to have done ok so I will tackle the roof with a gloss carbon fiber vynil in a few months:-

That looks like a pretty awesome job to me ! I want to do the dashin my t5, so please tell more in terms of how you did it, where you got the wrap from etc

got the wrap here:-

and here's a gloss one that I will probably use for my roof:-

and this is the tutorial I watched. you dont need the plastic tools they used in the video for a small piece like I was working on, but for bigger pieces I guess you would.
To avoid scratching the vynil, I would suggest you get one of the plastic squeegie things with some kitchen roll over the edge like you would for window tinting:-

That looks very nice mate! Was it hard to do?

andy-m 08-09-2012 08:23 PM

nah. if you get a bit that looks like it's gonna crease, you just lift that section, put the heat gun on it and re-apply. it's all in the video I linked to above.

I got a bit off ebay 1000x500mm for £11.99. that and a heatgun and patience is all you need.
if it all goes completely wrong, you just peel it off. it does no damage to the part you are applying the vynil too so worst case is you waste £11.99

Great job, mine didn't last that long though :( make sure you open up the vent below the temp and fan dials if you use A/C as that's where the cabin air temp sensor is.
