The program about 60 years of Grand Prix was interesting as well, it was on BBC4 before this one on Sunday night.

Just watched this.

Excellent programme, real insight into what it was really like - especially for those of us who weren't born at the time.

I was not that old in those days but Jim Clark was my hero.

It was such a massive loss to F1 equal to the death of Ayrton Senna.

Seeing that footage of the ring just imagine what that was like going round the ring with no protection what so ever.

Yeah, I watched that and the programme shown at the start of this thread.

Although the deaths and lack of safety were clearly a terrible thing, I think the programmes illustrated the difference between the racers of yesteryear and the poster boys that F1 has today.

Bring back the Lotus 49, thats the way forwards! :D

Red Baron 31-03-2011 01:30 PM

I wasn't particularly interested in the modern bit, it was seeing the likes of Alan Jones, Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi etc. being reunited with their championship winning cars and getting the chance to drive them again that I enjoyed.

XRS 31-03-2011 05:17 PM

I remember watching grands prix from the 1960s, and I also remember how unpopular Jackie Stewart was for standing up for safety issues. I was amazed to be reminded how many great drivers died for our entertainment. Very sad :(

Big E - don't let 'em get to you, you're only a young 'un :D

missed this, but will be similiar to the program that they did on the (50's??) Le Mans tragedy..........all of them simply carried on racing past the fires, deaths, etc.??
