Exhaust Recommendations

Hi all! Wondering if I could have some exhaust advise please. I have just replaced my Prodrive system with a GRD Race system for better power on the remap. It's a great exhaust (and sounds great) but the kids complain it's too noisy for them in the back.

Can anyone recommend an exhaust for an 03 blob that's not going to restrict power too much, but isn't that noisy? Preferably something fairly standard looking with a 3" tailpipe. I've heard good things about Milltek but they rarely seem to come up.
Thank you!

Yep...Milltek the way to go:doubleup:

Thanks Tim and CJ.

BIG"E" 27-02-2011 04:34 PM

So is the new exhaust to save you getting ear plugs to go to Germany??

Come on Greg get your name down.

Save your money and go to spa in october

SpecB 27-02-2011 05:17 PM

Milltek are lovely, that's what I have on mine - make sure you get the 3' though not the cheaper and easier to find 2.75.

Anger 27-02-2011 05:37 PM

Another vote for Milltek :)

Not yet.....:sadno: Hope by the end of the week if the pistons turn up from the states:paranoid:

Anger 27-02-2011 05:57 PM

Will be worth the wait Tim :)

Scooby_Greg 27-02-2011 06:40 PM

Tim - will definitely be worth it!

Ian - I haven't given up on the ring yet, although time is now getting short...

Milltek do look very good - ideally if I can get one second hand it would be great, but they don't come up very often. Revolution also look very good exhausts. The question now is cat or de-cat on the Milltek/ Revolution for everyday driving....

Anger 27-02-2011 06:55 PM

To quiet :D

Scott.T 27-02-2011 07:30 PM

If it were my money and I wanted a 3 inch system, I'd go for the revolution decat'd
If it was someone elses money then the MilTek cat'd.

Anger 27-02-2011 07:35 PM

I hated the sound of my Revolution... had a horrible tinny sound on let off, i sold it a week after buying it

Maybe i got a dodgy one.. but Simons sounds the same when revving at slow speed

Is it heat wrapped. Wrapping can stop some of the tinnie...nes.....

Anger 27-02-2011 07:42 PM

Downpipe and headers were wrapped, everyone who heard it commented on how bad it was... went on another car and was better but still had it a little on lift off at higher revs

Because the RA was stripped it was very annoying inside as it was so clear

LOL i remember your RA being about 2 miles ahead of me on the M40. I could still here it.......

I had to wrap the centre section on one of my decat centres I had a few years back to stop the ringing/tinnie noise.

Anger 27-02-2011 07:51 PM

lol that exhaust only lasted that day ;)

SpecB 28-02-2011 04:46 PM

I may have a Milltek sports Cat centre up for grabs soon as I'm going full de-cat before I break the Cat with the Anti-lag!

worzel 28-02-2011 05:18 PM

I'm really happy with my Kakimoto 3" De-cat system.

It doesn't have the burble it used to have ( due to the headers ) but it is nice and quiet. But still gives a lovely note when on full chat.

Saj at JPP has complete systems around £500 - £600.

Cheers mate :ok:

Scooby_Greg 28-02-2011 08:05 PM

So many choices! On balance I'll probably go for a Milltek - but a second hand one. I'll still have a listen to yours Worzel....

Anyone for a GRD Race Exhaust fully slip jointed stainless steel? I'll post it once it's off the car!

Anger 28-02-2011 08:11 PM

My car had one when i first got it

Dilligaf 28-02-2011 08:27 PM

I have a Cobra exhaust which is a lovely note but way to loud, llooking to change it soon! BUT a mate has the HKS superdragger, sounded nice, not as raw as mine but more livable day to day.

Ginola 01-03-2011 04:00 PM

have a Hayward and scott on mine , sounds great (de-cat straight through 3" rolled tip) , but it is a little on the loud side when on the boil.

RobEvo5 03-03-2011 05:10 PM

The revolution is nice and quite compared to most others but still didn't find it that quiet on a classic. Also it uses a sleaved system with 'U' clamps rather than flanges, and my one had a slow blow no matter how much I tried to paste and clamp it up.

Miltek would seem to be the master of quiet performance exhausts.

Scooby_Greg 03-03-2011 05:47 PM

Thanks everyone - i really appreciate the advice. On the basis of the feedback I have got myself a 2nd hand milltek - full 3" system with cat. I'm not sure how restrictive the cat will be though and am considering getting the de-cat downpipe to run day-to-day.

Was very tempted by the Revolution.

The GRD is a great exhaust, but just too loud for the kids! May be posting it in the For Sale soon if anyone was interested as the missus is getting fed up with the car parts everywhere. ("why do you need 3 exhausts, 3 sets of wheels, 12 brake discs for one car" was the comment last night ;)

SpecB 03-03-2011 06:20 PM

My sports Cat is running 390BHP, and the Type 25's run 450+ on the sports cats

I would be mate, if you decide to get rid. Looking for a quality 2nd hand 3" decat system. PM me if you do :ok:
