oh well had the scooby under a week and poorly already!!!
Drove the car this morning for about 5 mins and smoke starting pouring out bonnet vent, got it straight home and loads of smoke(not normal steam etc, really stunk and was hurting the eyes smelt bloody awfull)coming from right underneath the car, left it in garage walked back to work, come home tonight got car up on ramps(checked oil and it was overfilled, drained some out and checked untill ok,the sump bolts were all oily and a bit loose so all cleaned up and tightened up,couldnt see anything loose etc, started car up run for five minutes and nothing, took car out for five minute drive time i got back there was smoke pouring out got it back up ramps and looked underneath but it is coming from above the exhaust at back of engine, and i cant see from looking up or looking down, not sure if it just a pipe gone(water or oil???) or something else burning gonna go down to brent tomorrow and see if hes there as dont fancy driving it any distance, any ideas guys??????????,so the idea of debadging, fitting splitter and de-tangoing headlights might have to wait a while.
Cheers Dave |
And no rob i should'nt have brought your evo!!!!
|
or maybe i should have:whistle:
|
Rocker cover gasket is my guess, but check you coolant lavels in case its water, you should be able tell whether its oil or coolant by the colour / smell / thickness of the smoke
|
Mate thats not so good. :kicknuts:
How far did you drive it on your test drive? Did you buy it privately or from a dealer? Hope you get it sorted and its something simple |

Dave, thats awful news...if in doubt get Brent to look at it....he normally works on his own car on a saturday so might be worth popping down. Put your mind to rest either way

Not good mate, but hopefully just something simple. As said, i'm sure Brent will have the answer. Good luck buddy.

FSH by A Subaru dealer is not always a good thing as you mentioned overfill & lose sump bolts. What else have they missed? This is not a knock on Scooby's it's a main dealer thing that happens all the bloody time. Hope it's not to serious mate Good Luck. :drive:

Could either be crankshaft oil seal, normaly runs out of the cam cover on to the heatshileds of the headers, Or above the headers is a small water pipe from water pump to modine these sometimes leak but not that offten.
tone |
Tone remember mine doing something very similar ? :drive:
|
That was a water reture pipe to the turbo an still got the burns to prove. (that was another jaffasport fix someone elses Fu*kup) ;)

thats cool mate :) |
Good luck with it Dave, hope you get it sorted:ok:
|
Good luck Dave. If it stings your nose and eyes it could be coolant leaking from turbo and dropping onto and into the exhaust heatshields it a common issue If the turbo is swapped without draining the coolant. Check over the water pipes to and from the turbo.

Didn't say a word mate ;) Pays ya money take ya choice as they say  But from what you have said about test drive and miles covered since. It sounds more like just **** luck TBH. If you had bought mine and something like this happened then things would have been akward, so part of me is relieved, and just reminded me of my rule which is to generally avoid selling to friends, family or ascociates for just this possible scenario. Sincerally hope its a nothing problem, but its still agro and worry you could do without. But At least with the a scoob you are in good company and I'm sure it will get sorted. Plenty of folk about to have a look over it for you.. |
hope you get it fixed mate, mine did the same, thought it was the rocker cover gasket, turned out to be a half moon shaped piece of plastic, not sure what its called a couple of my mates said it was a woodruf key, theres 2 of them and it was the lower one just above the exhaust headers, didnt leak when cold but after the oil was hot smoke was comming out from everywhere :-(
