Insurance excess
 

Having never claimed before, where my policy says I have a £75.00 Windscreen excess, does that mean I pay the first £75, or Im covered for the first £75 ??

Bloody lorrys that carry the stuff away from tips/dumps...All should have a cover on them!! :cry:

it means that when you claim, you pay 75 quid. thats it, the rest is covered by the insurance company.

Make sure they change the trim mate, looks so much better with a new one. New screen may make some creaking noises for a day or so, quite normal when changing a subaru screen. Who,s doing it?

just out of intrest,does any one know how much a new windscreen is plus fitting .They wouldn't add it to my insurance as mines an import(like that makes a differance)

To say Im not happy is the understatement of the year.

Found out today, that yes, I may have a just £75 excess....but the Insurance will then only pay for £150.00.

So my bloody windscreen cost me £389.99

£150.00 was that on your insurance quote? I gather you car is an import and that is why it cost so much? think I will be on the phone to A-plan to check if they have a maximum amount on windscreen cover!

Did you use the insurers approved repairer?

Its not a import, just a standard UK WRX. But I would check, Ive looked through all my paperwork, and cant find anything that says its capped. :sadno:


I just rang Autoglass on the National number, thats All Ive ever done with the chips before, but this time, it was pretty much a brick that came flying at me. I did call today, and Ive been advised to talk to Summit direct.

cheeky gits, i had to have a new windscreen on the mr2 a few years ago, 50 quid is all i paid, the windscreen cost 780!!!!!!
thats a bit of a p*ss take on the part of the insurance company, especially if they say nothing in the t&c's about it being capped.

For replacement screens (and chips aswell really) it is essential that you use the insurers approved windscreen company unfortunately.

That said i am amazed that Autoglass fitted the screen without speaking to your insurers. They should have checked before fitting the screen IMO

When mine went in the winter last year, I used Autoglass for mine. They weren't forthcoming with information about anything. In fact it was speaking with Gary that saved me a **** load of money.

Autoglass IMHO will always quote you top dollar, it's up to you to provide paperwork to the contrary. Even though they are supposed to do it differently.

Don't get me started about Autoglass..... i'll be ranting for hours!!!!!

Couple of bad experiences myself, and a few disagreements with their call center.

They did contact the insurers to check and confirm the cover, Monday morning, it was the insurance people that told Autoglass that I have a cap.


All I have is the first few leters, then a one explaining the cover type, with excess listed, then the actual insurance note. No where on any them mention anything about a cap.

Why did they carry on fitting it if they knew there was a cap?

By the time I'd made it to work, what with the frost Monday morning, the crack had extended the length of the screen.

So I said just do it, didnt fancy driver all that way home, at night, with a screen at risk of comming into the car.

I know it's of little use now, but always ring your insurance company to get a windscreen done, as otherwise these things can happen.

The screen would not of come into your car mate, they are made to crack and thats it, even if the crack go,s edge to edge or top to bottom the screen would never come in the car.

That said.... i have just spoken to them to get a chip in my windscreen sorted, and the guy there was ultra helpful and friendly, couldn't fault him at all, so hopefully things have changed.
