Short Shift
 

Have been looking at a Short shift for my 2002 WRX.How difficult are they to fit(not that I'll be doing it) and are their any disadvantages,thanks.

easy to fit, just a screwdriver to remove console, spanner and hammer. Some do not reduce throw that much and some can make it difficult to engage reverse i.e it takes several attempts and clutch presses. Some also have the wrong thread for the subaru gearknob. Best get a recomendation but imho most are overpriced for what they are.

I've got a shifter in the cupboard on the garage thats a really nice short throw but reverse is such a pain that I took it off.
I also tried Wez's one he had for sale a while back. This enagaged reverse OK,but I struggled to notice much difference in throw, when measured I think it was 1 inch less from 1st to 2nd then OE. The shifter that has reverse issue IIRC was nearer 2 inch less throw compared to OE.

Had mine fitted at Gatwick Subaru years ago.
No problems wotsoever should have been fitted as standard

i had a b&m short shifter on my 5 speed still have it in a box at home thay are about the best shorten throw by 40% but can be notchy at low revs but fine when on one, if that makes sence, i have just replyed to someone about buying mine, but if i am mucked about its yours if you want it, it cost me £175 but will let it go for £60 no offers as i wanted £75 for it! send me a pm if you are intreasted
