Evo ownership

Some of you have met the previous owners of my Evo now. So i think its time i said a few kind words about my car. From day one 2005 my car has been battered around Croft, Caldwell, Oulton park, Spar & well over 200 laps of the Nurburgring before i got it @ 34k miles. This car's only problem's in this time have been brake's. When i had the engine work done Jimmy commented on how good all the internal parts still were. So good infact i sold them on. Now i know allot of people on here dont like Evo's but you have to give credit were it's due. I will be keeping the car for some years to come & will carry on giving it a good battering & hope it stays as reliable. :drive:

worzel 15-06-2010 02:59 PM

Mate, you know how much I like your car. It the dogs dangle downs :norty:

Good luck though with the "you are only allowed on here with a scooby" brigade

More importantly, what did Ray & Neil think of it?

Lucky 15-06-2010 03:20 PM

I think thats one of the nicest evo's around and its condition is a credit to you nige. It was, for me, the biggest surprise in germany and certainly made me look at them in a whole new way

Anger 15-06-2010 03:26 PM

but how much did he spend on it ;)

Anout £30.00 I think

Chunk 15-06-2010 03:57 PM

It is a lovely Evo

I like the Evo 5 most, but i would still own any after that

ralliart didz 15-06-2010 04:09 PM

i would like one nige, but i would have 2 have the evo7 gta because it has a triptronic gearbox, because i drive with hand controls, due 2 being a crippy.they have still got 278 bhp which would be enough for me.maybe if i get bored with my scooby

gtiteen 15-06-2010 05:50 PM

If insuring them wasnt such a pain in the arse one would definitely be a possibility in the near future. Ive always been one of the brigade who just think evo's and scoobs are both cracking cars :)

Steve_PPP 15-06-2010 06:08 PM

its a stunning motor Nige, and i think most people on here still love the evo's as well as scoobs ;)

wanna swap? :D

i do like the evo's but i hear so many crap things about them, need to drive one soon to know if its all true or not.

AndyWRX 15-06-2010 06:47 PM

i do like some of the evos, my favourites the 5 and 6's but id happily have a newer one, only thing that puts me off is the reliablity stories, no different to the scoobies i guess but i went to a rolling road day and a very nice evo made just under 370, when he left the rollers there was a small trail of oil being left by his car, next thing everyone was being told be carefull on the roundabout because the yellow evo dropped its guts all over the road

Just unlucky i guess, or pushing the standard internals too far?

After our 'Ring trip, the Evo's look far more suited to track punishment than the scoobs in my opinion!

Anger 15-06-2010 10:17 PM

Wasnt Rays broken by the end Steve ?

worzel 15-06-2010 10:26 PM

It was broken before we got there I think.

Anger 15-06-2010 10:29 PM

A well looked after well modded scoob will be reliable

True, forgot about that ;)

But a saw quite a few 8's and 9's out there that just seemed to be going round and round all day doing the business :)

Anger 15-06-2010 10:48 PM

I saw alot of scoobs to... my friend from the MSOC in the white and blue Newage STi did over 15 laps without any probs ;)

I didnt have any issues and James didnt and we did the most out of the scoobs i believe

Doing this sort of thing needs an oil-cooler and even if you go on the Evo sites about the ring they all say this is the main mod needed

Its horses for courses at the end of the day and i like abit of drag racing as well as track and Evo's dont handle launches well at all

When i get older i might want active Yaw control helping, me but at the mo i prefer doing it all myself ;)

Steve_PPP 15-06-2010 10:50 PM

lol, maybe i'm starting to fancy a turn to the dark side...

urgh, what am i saying :(

Anger 15-06-2010 10:55 PM

Older than your age says lol

SUBARMAN 16-06-2010 07:50 AM

Nige's Evo is a credit to him and is definately welcome on here, I would say.

:SMBLU:

worzel 16-06-2010 08:28 AM

I agree 100% about the oil cooler. It's one of the best mods you can put on without doubt, and not an expensive one either.

The other thing is down to the drive down there. If you batter it down there, then go on track and batter it again, you are asking for serious trouble IMHO. Been there and still wear the XL T Shirt!

Chunk 16-06-2010 08:34 AM

I would have an Evo, but scoobs are slightly more affordable. I'll stick to my Mercedes for the time being.... nice & cheap

Im confused to who said he wasnt lol

worzel 16-06-2010 10:23 AM

With regards Rays Evo, I had an e-mail from him this morning about some pics I have sent him. This is whats still going on with his Evo X

" I am still without the Evo X, it has been at Mitsubishi Garage for over a week now. The problem was that the transfer box was knackered and I am waiting for them to replace that, when the new one arrives! "

Ray also says in his e-mail that the Evo X is not a patch on the Evo 8, even in standard format.

Hi James

I wasn't suggesting that anybody had said he wasn't welcome, just re-inforcing the fact that he is. Sorry if that came across wrong.:?

Nige 16-06-2010 12:02 PM

Ray spent nothing on the car in his ownership. I've spent £15 k.

worzel 16-06-2010 12:05 PM

He's kept the Evo X in standard format as well hasn't he?

15k, blimey, no wonder it's pushing out nearly 600bhp Mr Squirrel.

The point i was trying to make was my Evo has been battered from day one & 34k later it was still going strong. Ray had kept it std & had no issues with engine or box. The car never even had so much as a wheel bearing changed. I wasn't trying to say there better just that this particular car had done really well considering the abuse it's had. All the Evo's come with oil coolers some models have bigger than others. As far as yaw control is concerned mine is none existent at the moment i will however get it mapped back on again. I dont really know the in's & outs of it to be honest. Ive now tried it without so when i get some money together its going back on. If it helps then good if i feel no improvement then it will be removed completely & an RS diff fitted. Your right James the Scoobs are better at the drag strip. There better at the launching proberly due to the gear box being in the right place. As you say there both good for the money you pay. :drive:

eureka 16-06-2010 08:26 PM

my evo 5 was the best out of the bunch between the evos and scoobs ive had deffo

Nige, I get what you are saying about your Evo big time, as do most others. It's just enjoyable having a little tease every now and then

When you consider what a battering that car took, it's amazing it was in such good nick. It does go to prove that they are extremely well put together bits of kit.

Bloody balence shafts, gald i dont have them anymore. Some on the mlr have had issues with shaft belts. The rest of the list seems more age related though. You went back to the Scoobs is that because you feel more comfortable with them ? :drive:

I am lucky enough to have a daily drive and a play thing, the daily drive was the evo6 for a year, but I still had the subaru as well.
Mapped an evo8 in yellow the other week, looked excellent but driving position felt wrong.
I just find the subaru suits my driving better.
