Autocar review on impreza cosworth

The new hatch is growing on me! Not sure I'd want to fork out 50k but a lot of performance for the value. Wonder how much it would cost to get a normal sti to that performance, probably more!

Nice but expensive.

Something to consider:-

If you gave your current Impreza to RCM and told them you had a budget of 50K you would have a heap more "reliable" power & better handling.
When it came to lifting the bonnets the RCM finish will be on a different level and the back up will be better & more cost effective.

I am not knocking Cosworth as that would be foolish, and I can only comment on my experiences but I believe the above to be true.

I am beginning to get this new shape at last.

That is a stunning bit of kit and will be plenty impressive, but as said, fookin expensive.

Later this year though, I would bet a good amount that there will be 340bhp version, to rival the Evo FQ340 at a decent price. That will be worth the wait I'm sure

bit too expensive for what it is imo, dont get me wrong its a stunning car and im sure it would be fantastic to drive but for £50k id rather spend it on mine and get abit more than 395bhp, the new shape is growing on me though but not enough to justify £50k

666subaru 25-05-2010 05:51 PM

Agree with Clive, I would rather spend that sort of money on mine or just buy a dodge challenger, which is what I want anyway

munk 25-05-2010 08:03 PM

with you all the way on that one baz challenger for me(very big fan) lmao

belliott 25-05-2010 08:03 PM

what you need to look at is the evo fq400 is £53k and doesn't have that legendry cossie name and a limited run at that power, i know which i'd prefer and if i had the money i would of put the deposit down already, 22b of the future possibly.

rb5scooby 25-05-2010 08:46 PM

Agree with skullfudge, rather send mine to RCM and have alot more fun spending the money, or buy a Ferrari F355 or 360.

The GTR is a waste of time mate. You give them £60K or whatever they are, they NISSAN basically tell u what you cant do, or else.

You can't take it on one track or strip without them knowing. When u do, all warranties become void, unless u pay them a grand for a pre race recording. They turn up, plug in a laptop, record your highest rpm, temperatures etc and that's it.

Tyres are £ 260 each. If u get a puncture you MUST replace all 4 tyres.
Suspension warranty.

I spent a full day at Silverstone in GTR's and after 4 laps of the short track all 4 brakes were virtually on fire. That happened all day long on all 4 GTR's.

Yes, they are quick, the first 100 Mts is rapid, and they handle reasonably well but I would never want one.

You feel like you are driving a robot.

A good mate of mine bought one & sold it after 3 months.

Justin 26-05-2010 12:39 PM

Oooh I don't know, not that I'm in a position etc to even test drive one, but If I were then I'd have another car for track, the GTR would remain std until warranty ran out, I would use it day to day and tour Europe etc... then after 3 years the tuners would be nicely experienced with them - then I would play with it.

All in my fantasy opinion, lol

worzel 26-05-2010 12:45 PM

I think Belliot makes a very good point when he asks the question....

22b of the future?

I bet he's right and we'll all wish we owned one when it's too late.

Now.............. wheres that spare £50k............ Oh.............. a mask and a gun it is then :martyn:

Surprizingly the new Impreza does look good in this write-up, but it has lost its soul... Looks too much like a Focus.
