WRX RA Starting to mod

Hi Guys,

I have a 1993 WRX RA (Non STI), its a bit tired, so I woz genna tune it a bit.

What are the first stages?

I think its 240 as standard when new, but I guess its worn a bit now.

I was thinking of a TD05 and an external turbo blow off wastegate?

Any help apreciated.

Regards

I would start off with a Green panel filter, then full de-cat exhaust system

Thanks Paul,

Would I have to refit the original for MOT?

Depends if you have a friendly MOT tester, but you would normally.

Or you could get a sports cat if you were worried about the MOT, like this:- http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog...oducts_id=1111

Have you got any pics?

Is this a proper RA or is it a looky likey?

Just so we can give you the best advice possible. There are a few RA and Ex RA owners on here who can point you in the right direction.

Its pretty standard, so I guess the first route is exhaust and filter, not sure what turbo is on there - how can i tel

Will have it stamped on it
No need for external waste gate
I'd sort the brakes and handling out first then do the engine bits, saying that i know where a 2.5 bottom end will be for sale soon !:-D

You should go for:

K&N Panel filter
Walbro 255 pump
NGK PFR 7B plugs gapped to 0.65
2.5" Decat downpipe
2.5" Decat / Non-resonated centre
Remap

That'll be your stage 1 sorted. i went from 280bhp to 325bhp with that lot in the P1 many moons ago...

Mappable ecu should be high on the priority list. Will be one of you best buys.

As the others have said above, exhaust, air filter/induction kit, injectors etc

But with power mods, handling & stopping should also be uprated

WRX_Paul 28-04-2010 04:58 PM

Also agree with CJ, the standard brakes on a pre 97/98 Impreza are shocking and should be uprated first, they should not be on there in the first place

Yes the brakes are not very good enen though I replaced the pads etc, I think they are 2 pot at the front so will go for later 4 pots if i can find some cheap on ebay and recon them.

I guess my budget of £200/month on the car is not genna go far:sad:

Your car should have a td05 as std.

You say its a tired car, in what way - mileage? If you're on a budget then firstly I wouldn't be upping the power unless you have funds to cater for possible engine / gearbox failures since lets face it a high mileage 16 year old car is going to be tired!

But the TD05 can be tuned to 350 HP with a few bolt on mods and a remap.

IMO best thing to do is give the car the best possible chance - run it on Vpower only, change all fluids, plugs and cambelt if you don't know its history

I'd go for a quality 5w40, Silkolene PRO S for the engine, Castrol driveline 75w90 for gearbox and rear diff. NGK PFR 7B gapped to 0.7

I would then uprate the brakes as already mentioned.

I would also take the car to SRR and get Charlie and Simon check it over regarding the cars power and fuelling, its always best to know if the engine is OK and the fuelling is OK, if fuelling isn't OK then you could run with booster to see if it helps, otherwise you could run actuator pressure until you can afford a remappable ECU / ESL / scoobyECU

Thanks Justin,

The engines a but tappery, so I might just wait untill i can do a complete rebuilt/upgrade project.

With the use of an ECU and a laptop? :???:

Sorry if i missed something i'll be the first to admit my knowledge is pretty much solely based on the P1.
