engine cuts out

I have a problem that when i accelerate hard in 3rd and 4th (it doesnt seem to happen in the other gears) the engine cuts out at about 5500 to 6000 revs .
I have noticed that the turbo does boost to about 1.3 bar, which sounds abit high.
I did have a decatted exhaust and the problem was really bad,the cats now back on and its abit better.
Could it be over boost(if there is such a thing) and if it is how would i sort it out?

Jason
ps.as far as i know the car standardhttp://www.sussexscoobies.co.uk/foru...es/ponder2.gif

what year / spec is the car.
1.3bar it too high if it is running a standard ecu map.
Sounds like the boost pipes could do with a clean, or if it is a pre96 the restrictor is missing from the bottom hose of the boost solenoid.

Post 97 the restrictor is in a different place and works in reverse i.e smaller hole = more boost. So if it's blocked with dirt or oil it will over boost.

The reason it only happens in 3rd+ is that the ECU will only trigger fuel-cut safety if overboosting for a certain period of time.
In 1st and 2nd if it overboosts it will be very quick, or it may not actually achieve the same boost. Normally it's a tad lower in the lower gears.

Its a 98 wrx import.

If it is the boost pipes, is it just a case of taking them off and blowing them through?
how many pipes would there be?:CUP:

just before where the trubo connects to the intercooler hose there is a small boost hose that attaches to a T piece.
the restrictor is in the hose between turbo and t-piece. this only has a 1mm hole in it so canget blocked.
the other side of the t-piece goes to the actuator
the bottom of the T piece goes over to the wing where it connects to the boost control solenoid.

clean these pipesout with carb/brake cleaner

while at it spray a bit through the boost control solenoid too.

Ok i took all the pipes off today and blew them through but its still overboosting in 3rd,4th and 5th.Also checked the best i could and didnt see any splits or broken pipes ,the only thing i did find was some oil/dirt on the pipe under the intercooler(left hand side as you look at it)

any ideas:sos:
