P1 or type RA?

My bro is looking at getting either a P1 with an engine re-build by scooby clinic 6k ago or a type RA. What are the main differences between them and which would be the best?
Liking the looks of the P1 but still unsure!
Cheers

C. J. 07-11-2009 09:25 PM

Id get the P1 just on the side that its a P1 and would sell on better

Chunk 07-11-2009 10:45 PM

WRX typeRA or STI typeRA?

Greig 08-11-2009 01:08 PM

sti Ra i think.

worzel 08-11-2009 01:09 PM

I think with special editions it's all a matter what's important to you.

I personally would have a RA over a P1, I prefer the looks and love the aggression of the RA.

But if you want a powerhouse and want to create a bit of a monster then it have to be P1. Look at Clives!

Why would the P1 be better to create a monster lol if anything the RA being alot lighter would be the better option

worzel 08-11-2009 08:13 PM

Just from the P1's I have seen with really big power that look outwardly the same as they were to start with, no more than that.

James, you don't need to convince me about the RA, I love them and would have one in a shot.

Nige 08-11-2009 08:43 PM

Tell your bother to buy mine mate. You know it makes sence :yeah: Look in for sale section.

Scott.T 08-11-2009 09:25 PM

If it were Type R Vs P1 then they are the same bar the badge and colour of the seats.
They run the same ECU, so would drive the same.

the RA has much shorter gearing, great for acceleration, not great for motorways.
If it is the 99/00 then the front seats are blue, the rears grey which always looks odd, but I think the front seats are lighter (or so I have read).

I would buy a Type R over a P1, purley because they are cheaper and a few more to choose from.

Chunk 09-11-2009 08:40 AM

Go for the STI RA

They are the dogs danglies

Skullfudge 09-11-2009 02:42 PM

Creig

I have driven both.
The RA certainly is a nice car and feels very rigid to drive. I personally am not to keen on the gearing as it becomes slightly annoying on motorways.

The P1 feels as good as an RA but smoother to drive and you will have less ear ache on the motorways due to Prodrive's input designing it purely for the UK roads.

I have a P1 with some modifications and if you decide to mod, either cars will perform very well. The weight difference between the two is very little and would not effect much when modified.

There were only 1004 P1's made with around 735 left today!

AndyWRX 09-11-2009 05:10 PM

the p1 is a uk version of the sti type R so imo the sti type RA would be the better option, up to your brother though at the end of the day mate

Chunk 09-11-2009 05:38 PM

He could always get a typeR and put the P1 kit on it

worzel 09-11-2009 05:51 PM

After all this discussion Greig's brother has now fallen for Niges 2.5 monster.

Now that's a tidy old beast :yeah:

We are not all about drag james some off us want are cars for the track which is totally different set up needed

Anger 11-11-2009 05:36 PM

2000rpm at 70 on track will be perfect then !

How will longer gearing help on track ?

You say micks car is only .1 behind scogsy but scogsys is set up for drag and mikes for a track car so as a track car it does very well

Anger 11-11-2009 05:40 PM

its got 580bhp to Genars 400bhp.... i should hope so lol

C. J. 11-11-2009 05:43 PM

You miss the whole point
Soft springs for drag like stewart is going for so the back grips
Coilovers like mike l has for going round corners

Anger 11-11-2009 05:49 PM

I miss the point lol... Scogs and Stew are running Stock STi springs and im running Coilovers set for track.... who gets the fastest 0-60 foots

Yes me with 1.5 to 60fts

Seriously i talk to Stew everyday about scoobs and even point out what others are doing to there drag cars to improve

You need to stop quoting people if your not gonna put it in the right contexted

I have no intention of doing 200mph its more for lower revs for motorway , plus pat and charlie have always said its the better gearing for a 2.5

Ratboy 11-11-2009 09:28 PM

:lol::rofl: you two.
