Re-enabling add ons like active x
For some reason, my internet explorer is now running with add-ons disabled. I can't therefore access youtube videos etc.
This is windows XP. I have tried programs-accessories-system tools. Also internet explorer -tools-internet options-progs. All I get is options to disable them. None allow them to be re-enabled All programs are shown as "enabled" on the system. Anybody got a quick fix? |
give this a try
Click Start Set Program Access and Defaults Microsoft Windows choose Internet Explorer as your Web Browser. or download Safari Browser from Apple, its soooooo much better http://www.apple.com/uk/safari/download/ |
Hello Ron, sorry, Ian.
Tried that, thank you, but it won't action the system change to internet explorer as the web browser !!!! |
hows about this?
Click “Tools/Internet Options”. Click “Advanced” tab. Click on the “Reset”. Click on the “Reset”. all options are checked, click “Close”. Click “OK”. Close Internet Explorer restart Internet Explorer.:doubledown: |
Hello Ian. Tried that too!
Also tried Tools-internet options-advanced tab-reset PLUS tools-manage addons-enabled all of them-click enable-click close NOne of this works.. It's like the computer is ignoring me. Tghis seems really ridiculous! Thanks for your help Matey. No more you tube for me then !! |

Hello Keith
Agree with Ron on the re-install of IE, but also the others saying 'use a different browser'. (I like Mozilla FireFox) If when running IE the add-ons are showing as 'enabled', but the browser content is not being displayed... then IE is screwed or more probably a DLL or a registry entry IE uses to access the add-ons database is screwed. Have you tried the MS re-install KB article? To give you an example of a similar issue… I run an old Windows 2000 Server at home that acts as a server and workstation. It was working like a treat, but sometime during May a Windows update was downloaded/installed that screwed my IE, Active Directory and local DNS. I tried for weeks to fix it, but in the end gave up and de-installed all the AD and DNS stuff. This fixed 99% of the issues, but even now when starting IE for the 1st time after system boot up I have to wait just over 3 minutes before a page is displayed. Do you think I can fix this? … nope. |
Thanks for all the ideas Guys !!
Well I uninstalled IE 8 as recommended by my local computer shop and am now on IE7. That did not sort the problem though as my usual path to IE still came up with add-ons disabled!! However, they suggested START - RUN - type iexplore in the box - click OKAY and then access websites. Hey presto I can now watch videos!!!! When i am feeling brave enough I will try installing a different browser!!!! Thanks again!! |
Glad you got there in the end:doubleup:
well worth using a different browser though, Safari still gets my vote, runs fine on Sasha's running xp. |
