I know im poking a wasps nest with a stick and then running away lol
But after engine rebuild my scoobs has done 550 running in very slow gentle driving was hard work lol

I would like to confirm what oils you guys run as i feel the 5w30 my mechanic put in is too thin....it previously ran 10w40.

Any help greatly appreciated and thats it poke .....run..... lol

Most would suggest to run the recommended oil for your engine as in the service book or oil filler cap. This is of course open to change depending on what sort of modifications and power you are running.

I think 5w40 is popular for most standard Impreza engines, that's what Scoobyworld would supply for example.

Mine runs 10w60 and is a standard engine, I run it purely to try and calm down the piston slap mine suffers with, although it doesn't make much difference...

The car runs fine although I wouldn't choose that grade of oil for it had I not got piston slap to live with.

First question, what does your engine builder recommend?
Second question how do you use the car?

I run 10w50 Millers Nanotech in mine but mine runs hotter than std even during normal driving as it's a 2.5. Do you have an oil temp gauge and what temps do you see regularly?

I'm running 15/60 millers triple ester
I'd personally run thicker than standard and go with 10/50 in yours

Hi no oil temp gauge he recommended 5w30 but i feel its too thin it gets used as daily 40 min commute and then weekend fun toy

Im running 10/40w after replacing my shat engine with better engine so sticking with that from now on .

Ask who ever built your engine firstly. Was it built with new forged internals?
5w30 its too watery on any subaru engine that's been rebuilt in my opinion,

I run 15w50 Motul in a standard engine but it gets ALOT of abuse, I would run 10w40 as a minimum, but if you intend some light track work or even if clearances are not super tight and you have a little piston slap when cold then 10w50 (Obviously a good quality synthetic one and it doesn't need to cost the earth)

Thanks guys i thought 5w30 was too thin i will look at 10w40 or maybe 10w50 as i will be having it mapped properly on the apexi ecu soon

And I drive like a pansy - but like the car to be drinking good stuff with the mods, and occasional pedal drop :ok:

For my new STi the handbook shows 5W-30 or 5W-40. What do people think?
