Personally I'd be looking for an open face one if it is for car use only, other than that get something as light as possible to reduce the risk of neck damage if the worst does happen.

I'd look,at open face car ones as well if your are only going to be in,a tin top.

When looking for helmet, just try loads on as some makes will fit you better than others.

Shoei and Arai are good but, I have a £200 Shoei and a £600 Arai, the Arai is far more comfortable.

Just remember to look after it, once knocked or dropped, throw it away.

If worried about neck damage, I got Jo and I neck braces, it saved Jo's neck in our little excursion at Goodwood last year.

If you can afford a proper one, try and get one that will allow attachment of a HANS device.. (going forward this is the direction I will be going in in future) although its expensive, it will cover you going forward, I will be going for closed face so I can use it for karting and open wheeled stuff.

Have a look here, or demon tweeks etc

I found it best to go to a motorcycle accessories shop and try them on, they all fit slightly different and some were uncomfortable compared to others. I noticed the strap makes a big difference, depending on where it sits under your chin - some had bigger clips that seemed to dig into my throat too much!

Got mine from http://www.ashtonsaccessories.co.uk/Motorcycle-Helmets. Know thats of no use to Scotty  but would recommend. Bought a Caberg full face that's done me fine for 6 or 7 years of track stuff and was only £95 i think. Just remove the visor when in a car as its more comfortable with breathing etc.

If you are getting a helmet just for knockhill as a one off, just hire one from the track.

Then you can can get one from Germany.

These are incredibly light, full carbon with good vision for a full face. I have to get a size up to shoei etc

just remember that whilst motorcycle helmets are fine for trackdays if you plan to do any competition at all then it MUST be a specific car helmet and all of the rules have changed for the 2016 season
