Question about my model

Some of you may know I'm getting my 2006 STI in a couple of months from Japan, I'm trying to look for insurance but all I seem to be getting is 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STI 2.5 Type UK coming up (don't have a reg number yet so just doing it manually). As nothing else is coming up would mine come under the Type UK or not as it's coming from Japan?

Steve_PPP 18-02-2016 11:35 PM

Yours won't be classed as a Type UK for insurance purposes. Worth speaking to a specialist insurer over the phone for insuring an import. You probably won't be able to get quotes using the online comparison sites...

The majority of us on here use Keith Michaels - speak to Gary Moulson and mention you're on here. Gary's a regular member on here as Moley_WRX - he might even say hello if he notices this thread :)

Give Gary moulson a phone at Keith Michaels car insurance most of us are insured by him .

scotty 18-02-2016 11:38 PM

Thats funny post at the same time

swrx2810 18-02-2016 11:40 PM

Great... Didn't realise it'll be this hard. On a Type UK it's £1000 a year fully comp for me. I'm 24 with 1 years no claims. I'll message them and hope.

swrx2810 18-02-2016 11:41 PM

I cant seem to send a PM it says I'm not allowed.

scotty 18-02-2016 11:47 PM

Just phone him on his direct number which is 02082880275

swrx2810 18-02-2016 11:50 PM

Thanks I'll try him tomorrow morning.

PMs become available after 10 posts.... just a standard forum thing to stop people signing up and spamming our members via PM without ever having posted.

You might struggle with your age/no claims for quotes, I think Keith Michaels prefer 25 upwards. Damn i wish i could have afforded a JDM hawk when I was 24  so its a nice problem to have!

swrx2810 18-02-2016 11:59 PM

Is it a nice problem though? Having it sat there while I can't drive it lol. Worse comes to the worse I'll have to wait till November I'll be 25 with 2 years no claims hopefully.

failing gary try A plan...

Steve_PPP 19-02-2016 08:02 AM

Yes, A-Plan and Sky Insurance (nothing to do with the TV lot) are the other two which are popular amongst scooby owners and understand this type of car and mods etc. But definitely worth trying Gary first.

Good news I tried Gary no answer so I gave Sky a ring. £1300 a year not bad.

Jeesh! ha ha

£1300 insurance - those were the days! my first 1.2 Corsa cost me £1010 3rd party! ha ha

xxxmike 19-02-2016 04:23 PM

HAHAHA I paid £900 TP on a 1990 Citroen AX 1.0L when i was 18. Its safe to say it was that bad my friends actually bullied me.
My WRX set me back £600 last year fully comp with an agreed valuation.
Biggest tip is get an agreed valuation on your car. My first scoob didnt and i paid £3k for it and it was worth that all day. Insurers argued and left me with £2k as they said that was market value.
Aplan are ok but i found unless you are 30 their prices are a little on the high side.

It's rather rare to get Gary first time as most here will attest.

He's quite a busy man, which should tell you something about him and the amount of business he does.

Been with Sky for the last few years now and have found them pretty competitive. They just done me a very fair quote on my 2nd motor too, matching my NCB etc. so happy days.

Never had to claim with them so cant comment on that.... and hope I never have to!

It'll soon start to fall. I've just turned 26 and I've had my Hawk for 2 years. Granted it's not an import and it's a WRX, but I'm only paying £382 a year now with 6 years no claims. That's through Hastings Direct as well.

Oh, and to make you feel better, when I first bought a GB270 at 21 with 2 or 3 years no claims, that cost me £1739 to insure.

Crikey, £382 is very low indeed.

Security_Paul 23-02-2016 05:19 PM

Low crime area, working for the Government, low annual mileage, old mother with tons of years no claims.

It all helps lol.
