Top Gear - Season 22

Sure most of you will have seen it, but Top Gear is back this Sunday, BBC2, 8PM. Looks like a slightly longer season this time as well (10 episodes apparently).

There was a live stream with the three presenters a couple of nights ago...

http://youtu.be/F8T1rMsJtQU

...which includes a few clips of what is to come this series. Sure a lot of it will be predictable, but I see Lydden, rallycross Supercars and a mention of Top Gear USA in the clips, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they do there.

Security_Paul 22-01-2015 06:53 AM

Really looking forward to this. They said that the hovercraft/bike/car/public transport race is in the opening episode.

NL03Scooby 22-01-2015 12:55 PM

Hopefully this season will make up for the pretty pants Patagonia special over Christmas!

I am sure they used to have each season coming out much more regularly then they do now however these later seasons have have a bit more money pumped into them judging on the varying locations they end up in each episode.

The main ethos now is entertainment over fact, as far as I am concerned the more cheap car challenges they do the better, it's not as if they review cars with much focus on the consumer now-a-days so keep the laughs coming!

Security_Paul 23-01-2015 07:03 PM

Completely agree. I love the cheap car challenges. Be interesting to see them have a 3 way race somewhere or a road trip with a subaru, an evo and something else equivilant like the Mazda 3 turbo.

Hongkongfooi 23-01-2015 07:40 PM

on series record:grin:

Bolesroor 25-01-2015 07:30 PM

My daughter is getting excited about watching this, finally she`s interested in cars......err no dad Ed Sheeran is in it! :fool:

NL03Scooby 25-01-2015 08:05 PM

Interesting choice of pin badges, obviously the guys are big fans of Chile now...

Security_Paul 26-01-2015 07:41 PM

I'm going hovercraft racing on land for a stag this coming saturday. Watching this has just reminded me how hard they are to control and how likely I'm going to come out hurt! Haha.

Good to see its 10 weeks this time though.

...I see a GT-R, so I'll be watching! :)

jmcc42uk 29-01-2015 12:52 PM

If there is nothing else on, i'll watch it.

It's gone down hill since the days of Chris Goffey/Tiff Needell

Lucky 01-02-2015 09:00 AM

Looks good tonight. They take a Bentley gt, bmw m6 and a GTR to aus. :ok:

Banstead Stig 01-02-2015 12:42 PM

Could be a good night in front of the box, as Our Guy in India is on Ch4 at 9pm.

I think olly Clarke was in the audience, if you have it recorded he is above the tv when Clarkson interviews kiefer sutherland

Scooby Hoo? 06-02-2015 08:29 AM

Managed to watch all of the first programme but the second episode was much the same as the first and I fell asleep just before the end. If the series follows along the same theme then I'll miss the whole of episode ten.:oldman::oldman:
No wonder the production company are in talks to pull the plug on Top Gear, Mr Clarksons uncontrollable mouth getting in the way :tissue:

alfa male 08-02-2015 08:10 PM

Just sat down watching this evenings episode.
Obviously they havent met Nige in his ambulance! :drive:

Matt23 08-02-2015 08:56 PM

What a crap episode this week, very disappointing.

Daniel Ricciardo now fastest F1 driver :10:
Lewis to be back ASAP?
Another nail in the Vettel legacy?

Scott.T 08-02-2015 10:27 PM

I'm all for a bit of TG larking about but so far this series it's been a touch relentless.
When are we going to see a good car review of the latest hot hatch or power house.....??????

With you on this, shame

Banstead Stig 09-02-2015 08:07 AM

I thought it was quite funny, but it seems that the series will be more biased to the "specials"/p'eeing about this time around.

At least there hasn't yet been an episode that was clearly cobbled together out of films that didn't fit elsewhere, which happened in the last couple of series.

I think it is a bit of "give the people what they want". We are a bit of a geeky minority wanting facts and figures and thorough shakedowns of cars. Prime time Sunday evening viewing for many is about winding down and watching buffoonery.

The Hurycan piece was good earlier in the series I thought, so it has not all been cocking about.

Red Baron 09-02-2015 08:14 AM

As a motoring program last night was a bit poor but from an entertainment point of you it was easy to watch and had me laughing when Hammond delivered the patient through the window and when they were trying to treat the "patient" in the back of the cars.

Hats of to Ricciardo though, that was a good lap and if you believe what they say he did 3 in the same time.

Despite what anyone says, wouldn't we all love their job (except maybe the Argentina bit).

tbtstt 09-02-2015 09:39 AM

I agree with Banstead: it was a very silly episode, but a lot of the gags did make me laugh.

Given some of the car reviews they promised in the pre-season blurb I'm expecting a few studio based episodes later in the season. I just have my fingers crossed that they have enough content to fill 10 episodes and they don't have too much filler.

I thought that is what Hammond said: very impressive driving if that was the case.

jmcc42uk 11-02-2015 11:10 PM

I can't believe Top Gear has come to this.

Don't think I'll bother watching it from now on, it's just getting silly now.

GO AND TEST SOME PROPER CARS

tbtstt 12-02-2015 09:08 AM

Short trailer for Epsiode 4 now up...

http://youtu.be/0x7gbfEfIi8

...with features on the BMW i8 and AMG GT it should look more like a car show this week!

Hongkongfooi 01-03-2015 09:13 PM

thought it was pretty crap tonight. although Gillian Anderson has aged well and gave me the horn even after all those years watching x files.
I would have been well pissed off if I was Hammond having to wait that long for recovery on that mountain:boom:

Banstead Stig 01-03-2015 10:00 PM

I do like pickups... and they were pretty impressive pickups.

The Lexus feature was a bit uninspiring.

I was impressed by Gillian Anderson's lap, given what was said about her earlier efforts!

tbtstt 02-03-2015 11:01 AM

I was hoping that Gillian Anderson was going to pull some mega lap out of the bag, just to knock that smug twat Olly Murs off the top of the times!

The Ford pick up sounded the nuts. Plus it was called Velociraptor, which is pretty badass. It looked ridiculously huge in the studio though, it would be a monster on UK roads!

Really looking forward to next weeks episode, as I believe it has rallycross content.

Steve_PPP 02-03-2015 01:55 PM

There's been worse episodes this year..... even though the new Lexus got a slating, the sound of the LFA still gets me excited :)

Plus the pickups were mental. Too much time wasted with Hammond being a dick up a mountain though.

Presenter James May will drive a World RX Supercar while co-presenters Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond stand in as May’s spotters.

The special rallycross feature, which was filmed at Britain’s Lydden Hill race circuit late last year, also stars US-based Top Gear presenter Tanner Foust who is the first American to have won a round of World RX. Several other World RX drivers also appear on Top Gear.

...got my fingers crossed that this is as good as the last rallycross feature they did on Top Gear.

Trailer for the last episode of season 22 now online. The blurb seems to indicate it will be the last two features of season 22, presented by Hammond and May:
