Engine management light and high idle

Hello all,

I've got an '05 STI, I was just at some traffic lights and she started idling at 2000rpm before settling down to 1500rpm. Then the engine management light came on. Limped back home and it sounded like it was misfiring a little and running lumpy. I don't have any diagnostics kit here, i'm wondering if this is a common problem and an easy fix I can do myself before handing over a bunch of cash. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Andy

Someone near you might have a reader, a few members live near you. Failing that, basic readers are about £25 on ebay

Turned out to be a P0519 error, which is the idle air control valve. Took it off and it was filthy inside. I followed this guide and all is well again;

If anyone has any similar problems then I really recommend following the above guide. All in, it cost me £12 for a new gasket and some bolts.

Glad you got it sorted, the ICV is a pain on classics as well as newage's

Cheers mate, it's annoying, but definately not a difficult or time consuming job and the car is running so much nicer now. So it's probably something i'd consider doing every 25,000 miles. Prevention being better than cure and all.
