Turbo upgrade

What would be the best option after running a Td05 16g for a while . I have been looking at the sc460 billet on scoobyclinic , the MD321 series on lateral performance and the GT-420 on Andy Forrest performance aiming to achieve 420-450bhp on a forged engine running non vvt heads .

ScoobyStu 19-08-2014 03:09 PM

Will it be a 2.1? The Sc42 is very a very capable unit. Seen them achieve 480 odd on a 2.1

Any particular reason why? Purely asking out of interest mate, not questioning your decision :-)

I'd personally go sc42. Will get you the power you want.

C. J. 19-08-2014 05:29 PM

Sc40 or 42 would be my choice

No reason but I will look into it and see how much of a price difference there is with my builder .

SpecB 19-08-2014 06:30 PM

My MD321x may be available soon, as a proven 450+ turbo on a 2.1 when it was on Angers car.

Anger 19-08-2014 06:58 PM

Made 507bhp on my 2.1 :)

Banstead Stig 19-08-2014 07:30 PM

That's a decent +. :D

Ginola 19-08-2014 07:30 PM

Have an MD321T billet in mine, very happy with it.

Essentially, I think it's the cost of the crank and machining to the block that's extra. Personally if it were me, I'd get it done.

Can you use a SCDB for a 2.1 stroker as been looking at more info and a CDB is used as it is a stronger engine .

C. J. 20-08-2014 03:36 PM

Scdb are fine for 500& a bit :)

As CJ says mate. Think CDB's are starting to creep up now and as a scdb will be more than sufficient for what you're aiming for, it's not essential to go that route.

Just found out from one builder it costs a lot more to build a 2.1 than to go the full forge route but still waiting on a reply from my builder to see what price he going to give me as he has gave me a good price to forge the engine I bought off him .

Interesting. Not had either done so I have no personal experience but from what i've read (in hours terms we're talking days if not weeks!) it's not much more. Not asking you to disclose your price but I know Engine Tuner do a 2.1 stroker for £4k. You drive your car there they do it, run it in for the first 50 miles, change oil then you pop it back for further oil changes (500 and 1000 I think) during running in period then they map it. They have a very good reputation too.

Anger 20-08-2014 05:52 PM

Pop it back is a 8 hour round trip

On the plus , it'll be run in quick :D

scotty 20-08-2014 10:08 PM

I think I will give a phone or email to talk to Alan Jeffery at Enginetuner for a price to see how much it will cost to do a 2.1 stroker on the sti8 SCDB then go from there .

Anger 21-08-2014 08:15 AM

You could just stick a stock STi8 bottom end in for your power target, all I'm doing with my new classic

Got to get the running in miles done anyway. 2 birds one stone is how I'd look at it. :-)

That's what I've decided but just going to get it forged just to be safe as it works out a lot cheaper are mahle powerpak pistons a good choice to go with . What classic have you got now James .

Exactly what I think. Little more than two days driving et voila.

Anger 21-08-2014 10:18 AM

Confused at how it works out cheaper going forged

Because the sti8 short block is already sitting waiting on me it doesn't need to be pulled out of the car and stripped its a lot less work for him to do which cuts the cost down a bit . Mind you the price will go up with the extra parts I will want fitted ready for the engine to drop in .

Anger 21-08-2014 10:55 AM

My STi8 has been running over 420 for 6 years now
