Ok so I've been up to hull this week visiting some family and I thought I'd post my findings about momentum 99 vs vpower.
So I filled up from tescos in eastbourne, filled from empty (orange light) and drove the 260 miles to hull, when I reached my destination I had was nearly on the orange when I got there.so on the way back today I thought I'd try vpower, so of I go to find a shell and I fill up (from the orange) and drive the 260 miles back, I now have quarter left. Drove both there and back at exactly the same pace ect (the best I could anyway,traffic ect) so in my opinion vpower gives a considerable amount more mpg than momentum. Also I thought that on the vpower I found the car to be more responsive but maybe that was just me?
Not that this means anything of course but thought I'd post it anyway lol.

This is true lol but is it just me or does vpower make the car run smoother?

I used Momentum, UK V power, belgian V Power (98), German BP 102 and German V Power Racing (100) last week and other than the dodgy belgian stuff it all seemed much the same to me, only difference was the price.

Fair enough lol must just be me. I useualy use momentum as there is no shell around here

Yes to running smoother, not sure if I get many more mpg with v power.

So it's not just me then, phew thought I was going mad and there was something wrong with my car

Placebo. ....it'll feel however you want it too.

Just worked out the cost of petrol is about £0.27 pence per mile :-(

Most mappers will tell you Vpower is the best generally available pump fuel in the UK. It does depend what your mapped on of course.

always thought that vpower does more mpg and is definitely smoother

I commuted for a month on each and got more miles from VPower than Momentum.

Probably worked out to be the same price though as VPower costs a bit more.

Have used VPower ever since on the basis it is renowned for being the best generally available to Joe Public and didn't actually work out any pricier in my, admittedly unscientific, comparison.

Ive only had my wrx300 ppp for a few weeks and just been chucking ultimate or super in it from esso etc ,,, should be ok with that shouldnt it ? Ie re det issues etc as the ppp is a fairly conservative map

Should allways use 99 Ron fuel mate ie tescos momentum or shell vpower, the super unleaded is sh*t mate and does more damage than good mate. Especially on the 2.5 mate, type into google impreza fuel and take a look mate

Oh really ! ,, damn my bad ,, ok ill make the switch from now on ,, thanks ,,, funnily i almost bought a 2.5 as they seem to go cheap ,,, since i bought mine and joined the forums i now know why :-)

For some reason I thought you had a2.5 but either way, yeah make the switch mate, your car will love you for it mate.

Think it only really makes a difference if the cars been 'mapped' for a specific fuel? For all we know though.... could just be the pump nozel thats different between all the fuels! and really its all just marketing and big business! (remember what we all though was beef?)

Momentum is not good fuel My DC5 needed an emergency top up which had to be Momentum and in literally a few miles it was sounding louder and running rougher.

I always used to think it was placebo until I went from BP ultimate which I ran for over a year (nectar points) to V-power, massive difference. That was however in an import not a UK car.

I dont think it is a fair test to run fuel from one tank straight to another, it will take a while for the ECU to make minor adjustments etc. Try running it for a couple of months then switch, there is a difference.

Just to be clear..... the PPP map on a standard newage WRX is designed to run on any UK super unleaded, so 97 ron or better. Whilst I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, any standard super should be fine.

Its only when the car is modified and mapped again that you often end up requiring 99/vpower etc.

That said, for the difference in price between any old super unleaded and vpower, i'd always recommend vpower!

I use Momentum 99 just coz I have a tesco local to me. Seems ok :ok: and with £0.20p per litre off, it only cost me £45 to fill up from orange light :-)

I tend to favour v-power over momentum 99, i've used both in various cars including my daily driver and find i get better mileage from v-power and the cars feel slightly more responsive

I stuck some Tesco 99 in my legacy yesterday & the car seemed to run ok, in fact I was driving quite briskly with no probs:oops:

Well I am stuck with BP ultimate at the moment as the nearest shell is preston park which is a good half an hour drive and Tesco in lewes, again, half an hour in normal traffic. I though ultimate was 99 ron until I got there last night and it was 97 . Not that I have much choice though.

Pleeeeese re open a shell near me!

Move to up here mate, i've got 3 Shell's within a 5 minute drive :)

I have to go to Shoreham or Littlehampton for my nearest Shell. 20 odd mins away maybe more depending on traffic. I look forward to it :-)

I have a blob WRX and the filler cap has a sticker on it telling me 98 or higher. Surprised to hear a PPP map asks for a lower RON, seems counter intuitive.

I use VPower all the time now. I'm doing a 50 mile each way commute at the moment round the M25 through dartford tunnel...I decided to see how much of a MPG difference I could get by calming down my driving. So last two days I've been driving below 2500RPM and finding a slow lorry and tucking up behind it...it's been numbing to say the least but I've got 200miles out of half a tank so far, I have let rip a few times just can't stop myself., but that's over 30MPG :)

Slower isn't always better, a few years ago i went down to wales in my wagon, on the way down a kept it to the speed limit and got 27mpg, on the way home i was a bit more keen and got 30mpg :)

Seems to be a lot more shell garages up north I've got one 2 mins from my house that's all I put in the Terzo .

On a non-PPP blob WRX? I'd guess that the sticker has been added, is the car still standard? :)

Yea standard mate. Even had the snorkel, original exhaust and stereo intact (how anyone could tolerate the standard stereo I'll never know.

I'll have a butchers later, didn't really pay attention to it and didn't check in the manual. I stick VPower in it anyway. I've tried BP super and Esso but didn't get the MPG.

Yep wish I had been on the way home from the ring,picked up a nice ding on the bonnet from a stone that also skimmed across it , with my anal paranoia I`m sure it lights up whenever I get near it :boom: Only positive will definately be getting it sprayed now:ok:

I checked my manual and it says non-turbo should be 95 ron or above. Turbos are 98 Ron or above...but if it's not available you can use 95. The manual does (like usual) cover all cars. NON-Turbo, WRX and STI. There is no difference in what it says for WRX or STI's in the petrol section...just the difference between turbo and non-turbo.

I've heard people say before that STI's need 98RON and above and WRX it's ok with 95 and above but I've seen no official documentation saying that.

Know how you feel mate. All that way, round the ring unscathed and get a cracked windscreen on the way home in France! Similar to you in respect that I had planned on replacing the windscreen anyway as it was scratched to bits and had a bit of metal stuck in it which you saw...
