So Annoyed!!!!

Hi all was driving my Scooby home last night when I noticed the temp gauge was running very high it went over the redline for a short while then came back down again also had no heat coming through the heaters and loss of coolant so I took it to my local garage this morning they have diagnosed it needs a new rad supplied and fitted for £244 does this figure sound correct? Also is it likely that there will be any further damage done to the car? Thanks in advance people.

Just had exactly the same scenario a few weeks back mate. Picked up a 2nd hand rad, should grab one for £50ish and fitting etc was easy enough. Just then coolant and filling.

Thankfully seems to be no further damage on mine but I have sorted a depo water gauge now so I can keep an eye on it :)

Well at least I am not alone then with regards to this going wrong I just hope that there is no further damage to the Scooby & that it is just the rad that was faulty.

*UPDATE* Have just picked the Scooby up from the garage new rad fitted with antifreeze total cost of £244 however there is an advisory note on my invoice saying "further damage may have occurred to the head gaskets due to the vehicle being run by customer with no coolant in" How likely is this to happen as my temp gauge was up went above the redline for a very short time about 1 min then dropped back down again to about the 3 quarter mark I had the heaters running full blast(alough there was no heat being produced at the time) to try and take heat away from the engine.

very likely
take the over flow bottle tube out of the bottle near the passenger headlight and extend so it pokes out at the bottom of the windscreen . take it for a drive , if it shoots water out their gone .
