SES. 2014 Ring Trip 23/5/14 to 27/5/14
 

SES will be continuing our annual pilgrimage to The Ring. :drive:

I have provisionally booked our temporary home http://www.hotel-wilhelmshoehe.de/ in Germany, for this years trip.

2014's trip will take place over the traditional Whitsun May Bank Holiday weekend leaving on Friday 23th and returning on Tuesday 27th May.

I have spoken to Jacqueline and the prices are the same as last years ie:

Comfort Double = 88 euros PRPN

Double room = 78 euros PRPN

Single room = 50 euros PRPN

I'll put me down as a single (and tba) at the moment - just so i'm on the list. Will know closer to the time. May well be looking for a passenger too, so could switch to a twin room......

Cheers BIG"E" not putting my self down until my car is fixed and ready to go as got a lot of work to be done on it .

To those of you that have done this before, how much are you looking at cost wise roughly for the whole trip inclusive.

Lifted from one of Steve PPPs post from last year

Costs are obviously higher if you drive out on your own and have your own room, if you share with someone or take a partner it roughly halves the cost.

Fuel - £300
Hotel - 4 nights @ ~ 80 euros a night.
Ferry - £60
Laps - 26 euros each i think (this year) or 4 laps for 95 euros ?
Food & Drink - whatever you choose to spend!
European breakdown cover if you don't have it already.

When i go with the wife, we end up spending about £1000 between the two of us, so £500 each.

This was a good guide for us newbies LY :ok:

i'd say that is pretty accurate overall as we spent about that.

my lead up to the trip with car wasn't so cheap lol.

^ I had a mad rush doing my car last year, as i really wanted to make it a nice track day car. I was still finishing it the night before putting different ARB's and exhaust on.

Hard work but worth it.

Just doen the build list for the Golf and surprised myself at how big the list is.

The list can be as long or as short as you want to make it ;)

Finger is on the pulse going to RA MOTORSPORTS development tomorrow morning with car to get a quote for what needs done and also found out that Andy Forrest goes there 2 times a month to map customers cars that will do me nicely closer to home for me .

I'm not going to do a list as I will be here all night but I know what needs done lol

We're giving it a miss this year I'm afraid - the lost day and overnight trip last year due to work really reduced the value for money for us! Have a good one though guys!

Already been looking at ferry ticket prices just might book then I will have to make sure my car is ready .

Pretty much as called by others above, and Steve's post from previous years,

Last year, I think we spent aprox 1k on the trip itself, but as others have also stated, spent a fair wack making sure the car was ready, (brakes, tyres, oil change and alignment etc.)--

This year I think it will be pads/tires/oil cooler.. ;)

Worth every penny though an experience every petrol head should accomplish at least once in my humble opinion.:drive::drive:

The suspense does add to the excitement a little though. Think I'd rather know still having said that!

There are some "guide" dates already released, but not the official ones yet. Which is annoying.

Yes, in the past years the Ring has been a 13:30 start.

This year they have an event on during the day:

When we use the ferry, it is DFDS. Dover/Dunkirk 08.00.

or last year we used the EuroTunnel.

Tunnel was good last year, I do have clearance issues on the golf.

Well I've been saving my Tesco clubcard vouchers for use on the tunnel but I'll go with the majority.

Is ferry ok for low cars?

Tesco voucher value triples on Eurotunnel, so the train ends up free or much reduced.
I'm happy to hand over any spare Tesco vouchers I have if it helps people out.

Yes it is, there is a option when you book for low cars :)

Ask to go on the lower dec if your car is that low. Big E pm me your home number as I can't find my mobile.

how does the clubcard thing work, if you have enough can it pay for the whole fare? Jo uses Tesco for fuel and we spend about £800 per month. Surely she must have enough for a round the world trip!

Not done it myself but sure Scott did it last year.

I just need to stop the wife spending mine.

Save your vouchers then you can do the clubcard exchange for double or more the value in euro tunnel tickets.

Go on club card site and login it should then tell you your current club card total. You then triple tat value when you use them on the tunnel.
You then cash in a value for euro tunnel vouchers the use them whrn you book your travel.
I have £51 worth so £153 to spend which will more than cover it for free.

And do you book ticket on the tesco site ?

Happy with that so what are the train times going to be for going there and coming back

Sounds like a plan can't see them going for it going to put car parts that I was going to buy tomorrow on hold and going back down to RA MOTORSPORTS tomorrow to get my quote as I think A pillar is more as a priority than buying another spoiler at the moment .

Well got told today that I'm doing the training with the Libyan army in England but it still has not be confirmed on the dates yet when it starts so I'm keeping options open at the moment with coming to the ring .

I asked the question: my car is quite low to the ground and it will not go up the ramp to the upper deck because the front of my car will hit the ramp. How can I ensure I travel on the lower deck to avoid any damage to my vehicle?

Useful Tip from Euro Tunnel !!!

I have just received the following e-mail:

You can make the bookings online but you will need to choose the option 'car with roof box / bikes'. You won't be charged any extra, it is to ensure that you are booked on the single deck carriage.

We also recommend that you all use the manual check-in lanes as you can explain to the staff member why you are booked as a high vehicle.
