Broken Turbo

Took the car to be mapped today having replaced the fuel pump. All was going well until the turbo let go! Broken bearing, smoke etc :sadnod:

Big thanks to CJ who helped me out with advice, food & phone :) Cheers mate :ok:

Yep, it was the precision 5831 billet turbo on Wiley's old car.

Mortster 30-10-2013 07:23 PM

Ouch! Rebuild kit or new turbo?

Hongkongfooi 30-10-2013 07:25 PM

Just turbo damage and not engine?

Ginola 30-10-2013 07:28 PM

A crap sorry to hear this dude, as per above do you know what the total extent of the damage is? did the engine get any bits of bearing?

Bytes 30-10-2013 07:32 PM

I've contected Wiley as the turbo was only fitted new in August, so I may be able to get it rebuilt under warranty. CJ suggested various different scenarios involving different turbos, but As I'm a newbie to all this I'll admit it didn't mean much to me. He also suggested cleaning the pipework and intercooler to catch any aluminium flakes. The engine started to move it off the rollers and once more outside, but I'm reluctant to turn it on again incase it does more damage.

So, I'll be starting a 'what turbo should I get' thread soon ;)

Ginola 30-10-2013 07:40 PM

I hope its ok fella and all the bits spat out the back, As CJ suggests best to take inter cooler pipes off and give everything a really good look over and clean, any little bits getting into the engine would not be good!, if it shows signs that bits have gone in then cross that bridge when you come to it..

As to what turbo.. Billet GT35r ;)

Sorry to hear this,

What with this being so close to your shop being ram raided.:sad:

Nice to meet you at SRR today.
Hope you get this sorted quickly, and get Simon to work his magic on it.
It'll be worth it in the end!

Bytes 30-10-2013 09:01 PM

Thanks for the good wishes everyone and good to meet you too oiler. Your mapping went well with great results!

Not been a great month for me :( Let's hope things improve. I've heard back from Wiley and he bought the turbo in Jan 2013 but it came from the States. Not sure about the returns policy, but I'm certain it'll be long winded, costly and time consuming to send back!

jonnyricer5 31-10-2013 08:22 AM

Hmmm thats the prob with buying some.things from over the pond.also warranty may
be only to.original purchaser you may have to get wiley to.send back for you!if not anyone over here
deal in these turbo s that can help??i hope so bud good luck and hope the damage is minimal!!

scoobycoops 31-10-2013 04:01 PM

Mate,
Hope there's no engine damage.
Simon is sharp though and would have detected it in time.

I have an AFP TD05 16g With only 6k available.

Coops.
