97 Impreza won't start

Hi all, can't get my 97 Impreza to start. Had to put another engine in, which was a runner in my other scoob. Changed inlet manifold, maff, crank, cam, knock sensors, plugs, leads, coil pack. Getting fuel in cylinders, good spark. Engine turns over well, but refuses to start. Help please as I'm pulling my hair out

Have you checked fuel pressure

I've changed fuel pump as well. Fuel flow is really good

Plug leads on correct way round/order ?
Coil pack fitted correct way round and hence correct firing order ?
New inlet manifold gaskets and well sealed (can be tricky to seal sometimes).

Are the conections to the sensors fitted properly, particularly the crank sensor?

Fuel flow may be good, but is pressure ?
If the fuel pressure regulator is knackered it wouldn't be holding pressure and the majority of your good fuel flow will just go back to the tank via the return pipe. You would still end up with wet plugs but the fuel won't be atomising out of the injector to give you the right mixture/burn.

RobEvo5 24-09-2013 08:44 PM

Leaking injector seal/rail, fowling the plugs ?.

scoobypat 25-09-2013 03:59 PM

well I'm. Close to calling it a day on this scoob. So may break or sell on. 4 days now and still not going.

jonnyricer5 25-09-2013 08:21 PM

That would be shame how do you no your getting fuel to cylinders have seen if plugs wet after cranking ??if so will be ignition prob.check will plug while out of cylinder eg laying on manifold so earthed out does it spark when cranked??if not poss ignition problem.if spark plug is dry when removed plus after cranking(be quick)then fuel prob. have you checked coolant temp sensor as maybe faulty ??!!

scoobypat 26-09-2013 06:53 AM

I've had plugs out and got a good spark. Taken out one of the injectors, plenty of fuel in rails.

jonnyricer5 26-09-2013 10:26 PM

Have you noid lighted the injectors to see if there pulsing??
