Revs dropping

Just been out for my first drive and drives lovely but when I put my foot on the clutch the revs drop down to about 200-500 then comes up to 900. At some points sounds like its going to stall but doesnt. If I blip the accelerator pedal it drops down to 200-500 before going to 900.

Any reasons for this?

Also it only started doing this yesterday. Driving around private land it was fine and today the turbo gauge stopped working. Just flashes but needle doesn't move.

Also it does boost but doesnt feel as quick as when craig took me out in it a few weeks ago.. could they be related?

It appears to be fine now. Maybe just needed a good clean out.

RCS2810 27-07-2013 12:36 PM

Doing it again to 500 revs then back up

Does it have a standard dump valve?

Mine used to do this when I had my forge dump valve on so I changed it back to the original recirc one and it resolved the problem.

RCS2810 27-07-2013 12:47 PM

Not standard. How come its been fine till now?

midlife2 27-07-2013 01:17 PM

Might be the dump valve if its not standard . Not sure if new age cars have a idle control valve the same as on the classics but if it has it might be worth cleaning it.

RCS2810 27-07-2013 01:23 PM

Yeah any guides on how to do it or even where it is?

midlife2 27-07-2013 01:24 PM

Know how to do a classic if they are the same could look at it when I drop the radio round

Okay thanks Hugh

Sounds exactly like the symptoms you get with a crap DV with a spring that's far too weak.

If it still has the standard re-circ, you could have a split or broken boost pipe somewhere. Normal culprit are the two that cross over the top of the turbo.

Also if it has a boost gauge and you say the needle isn't going up, I'd start by checking the feed for that.

Mortster 27-07-2013 05:44 PM

Also...

The breather system can cause it to drop revs when coming up to a junction etc etc. The turbo intake, sitting under the manifold has two weak points, the give the pipes a gentle tug ( giggles ) make sure the plastic hasn't broken with the pipe still attached to it.

Hmm got to find all these things now. It has an aftermarket dv fitted by scoobyworld I think.

The needl on the gauge still remembers the last peak figure and still responds by going to the max then coming down when ignition is on so thought that it may be the pipe from the turbo pipe has come off? Dont really know how they work...
