Roadside Recovery
 

Hi,

not wanting to tempt fate but what's the general consenus about roadside recovery? Who do you recommend and what type? AA, RAC, Green Flag?

I bought my Type R with no spare wheel and it's sod's law that I'll get a puncture or worse! How many of you have a spare as opposed to an inflation kit?

I'm looking forward to the meet at Barcombe this weekend and having a chat :)

Was with the AA for years but the price kept rising. Phoned them up when i got my renewal and found that if i was a new customer it would be about half the price, so told them to stick it. So much for rewarding customer loyalty.

Now use http://www.rescuemycar.com/ - really cheap and they just call out the nearest breakdown company locally to you when you need it. Used it once for Claire's car - Westbourne motors were with me in about 15 minutes :)

In the scoob i don't normally carry the spare wheel unless i'm going on a long journey, just have one of those inflation cans.

I did chat with a couple of folk at the last meet about a spare saver, but they didn't think it would clear the brakes if I remember correctly.

I think Silversurfer offered a 'spare spare' from his attic (hope I remembered the right person!!) :smile:

I used to be with R'ent A' C'lown but prices each year seemed steep, so I've changed to green flag as they were half the price. we now pay just under £40.

I used auto aid this year, £39 is all it cost. Never had it until i got the scoob, good job as i never needed it until the rad let go!

With Green flag free through bank account with natwest , I was away in france earlier in year Mrs was driving the scoob here and power steering hose split , Green flag came out in 40 mins took her and car to freinds garage pretty good I thought.

Breakdown cover is akin to banks and phone providers. Ask enough people and you'll find someone with a good and bad experience of each.

i have a spare going spare. not sure if it will go over 4-pots, but if you are near crystal palace/forest hill any time, you're welcome to see if it fits and can have it for free if it does

Rip off England I'am afraid.My fully comp insurance in France,which is damn cheap carries no Excess,covers me for all of Europe and includes full breakdown cover through out Europe

Couldn't find it on the site but do they only insure the individual/vehicle or can you get cover for the Mrs as well?

From what I read on the rescuemycar site I thought it referred to the car as being covered. Personal cover for the driver to use any car was extra (but not much) ;)

I'm with Green flag through my bank, plus I also have cover with Moley not sure who there's is as the Euro cover is 12 months.

Rescue my car seem pretty good, we've insured the Legacy through them and they were at least £100 cheaper than anybody else!

Called Rescuemycar to take out cover but was refused as they couldn't identify the car in their database. Am I missing something here? I have a Classic 1998 R Reg Type R V4 JDM coupe imported in 2000. Bloke on other end of phone suggested as it was JDM it didn't appear when he searched :-(

imports dont usualy show up on some database searches. I have had that problem before too

Tried that! I think it's because it's a coupe, that's what threw them. Perhaps I'll ring back and tell them it has 4 doors. Parkers has 4 door saloon imprezas listed, but not coupes ;)
